Speaking of adoption and TV shows. . .

Has anyone been watching House this season? They've been doing a lot of stuff on adoption and family, and I'm curious whether I'm going to enjoy it or be offended (or both). It's not my favorite show, but I've always enjoyed it. It can be smart and funny and I love Hugh Laurie, but it can be a little dark for me. Plus it gets repetitive.

There was an episode a couple of weeks ago with a patient who was adopted from China who felt alienated from her parents and then got ill while searching for her birthparents. Then House found out that his father, who he hated, wasn't actually his biological father. And then we found out that Cuddy is adopting a baby, and in next week's episode it looks like she's matched with an e-mom, but the e-mom comes into the hospital and it looks like one of those save-the-baby-or-save-the-mom storylines.

I'm curious but trepedatious how they will handle this. It's a smart show with good writers but they're not always "respectful" you know?

Anyone else watch this?

Yeah - I watch! Like you, it's not my MUST SEE, but I enjoy it.

I was wondering how the china-adoptive-parents felt about that story line...with the birthparents shoving pins in the baby's head.

I also wonder how I'm going to feel about the upcoming episodes. I guess we'll see (or not! lol)

I love House but tend to watch the reruns on USA so I probably won't see these episodes until next year.
I will say that I don't tend to get irate or care much about how adoption is portrayed (or not) on TV shows. Its the real life stuff that gets me.

I don't watch house, but I DO watch Madmen, and they have a couple (in the 60's) who want to adopt...Well, she does and let's just say the reaction of the husband and his family makes me cringe...

Wow. I'm a huge House fan, and I didn't even know about this. I've missed the last few episodes also. The only episode I remember involving adoption was when this teen boy was sick and they were asking for medical history and House found out the parents were A-Parents and got all huffy because he didn't have the correct medical history and the parents never told the kid he was adopted but he knew because he had a cleft chin. It was kind of confusing.

A few months ago, I'd critisize anything and everything that I found wasn't realistic about adoption, but I've since learned that tv is just entertainment sometimes and you have to take it as such.

We're big House fans and I'm interested to see how they handle the storyline with Cuddy, especially since we were also matched with an e-mom who was due very soon.

Last night we were watching "Baby Mama" and Tina Fey gets told adoption could take 5 years, and DH says to me, "why do they always show adoption as being so difficult and taking so long? Is that where everyone gets that idea?"
