And the survey says...

A few months ago I posted about different locations that I was researching for relocation.

After careful study, research, thought, obsession, and everything else....

I've decided that my children and are relocating to.....

CHARLOTTE, NC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay... now that that's done... anyone familiar with the area? I mean, I've donne research, but now I want to hear from fp's and ap's and anyone else who is familiar with the area. Likes? Dislikes? Culture? How is the foster care/adoption system in NC? Are there any particular areas that I should stay away from when house searching (I'm looking for a condo, by the way)... I'm open to all information.

I'm looking forward to it being my last Winter in Maine... it was 22 degrees this morning...

I'm all ears.

I had given a lot of thought to going back to NJ... but the thing about it is... well, I'll pay an arm and a leg to live in an apartment or someones house and may not have access to the basement, backyard, storage, etc... and then on op of that, I STILL can't let my kids play outside.

It's dangerous everywhere, I know, but I thought long and hard. I'll bypass Newark, NJ, lol.

I know what you mean Committed, this is why I'm rethinking about moving to San Francisco and may move instead to Twin Cities, MN or Dever, Colorado. A three bedroom home in okay neighborhood is about 800K! That same home in a nice neighborhood would be well over a million dollars!!!

We have really good friends who just relocated to NC -- they are adoptive parents and one teaches at UNC (not sure how close that is to Charlotte). They really like it....especially their neighborhood which they said is really cool and diverse (they are white and their baby is black). Also, housing prices are decent, etc. A lot of people from my state (MA) have been "flocking" to NC....GOOD LUCK!!!!

Too funny! Just the other day I was telling Storm that Charlotte was a great place to relocate too, if I could drag DH away from his job here...

Best of Luck!

A three bedroom in SF (depending on neighborhood) is definitely 1-2 million dollars. I will say it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world! I was just there this past w/e and it was perfect.

Hey Committed

Must feel good to have that decision made!

I have a good friend who just relocated there from LA with her DH and two little kids - if you want any specific info just let me know and I'll ask her for you. They moved due to housing costs in LA too, and now have two houses in NC - one for rent and one to live in!

Good luck...

We relocated to Charlotte 3 years ago. Love it! Throw away your winter coats. I usually just wear a sweater, maybe a week or so where a jacket might be needed. It's great - I don't miss the snowy winters at all. We spend so much time outdoors now. My DD loves to play outside and rides bikes with her friends in neighborhood every day.

We're in Union County, just south of Charlotte, and DH works uptown (downtown Clt. is called uptown here for some reason). We love our neighborhood and even have several adoptive families on our street. Lots of people from PA/NY/NJ area too.

Don't know much about condo pricing, but housing is super cheap here, depending on where you move. Just be sure to look into the schools, some are great, others are horrible - all w/in the same system.
