I have heard a lot of issue taken with the cost of adoption. Our "cost" included housing, food, care, and other services used by the mother. If the emom decides to parent, we do not pay twice, but the agency will. Because most of our agencies placements came from emoms, not children already born, it is frequently an unknown outcome in terms of placement. We preferred to know that our emom was in a stable environment for the latter part of her pregnancy, being taken to her appts etc. For us, we felt much more secure paying the agency, not the emom directly or through an attorney.

Deeply sorry for you.
We went thru similar turmoil when our youngest was born but, finally, she became ours. It was the absolute most difficult time of our lives.
The very saddest part of all this is that you and your husband would have been able to give this child everything he needed. Mom and her family appear to be very wishy-washy and unsteady and incapable of providing more than a few moments (and diapers) of support. A child needs so much more than that and he could end up in foster care for years before he finds the permanence he deserves -- all because of her selfishness. Please know that there is another plan for you that you can't see right now. Have faith and continue to believe in miracles.

The Most Wonderful News!!!
We got a call just before midnight about a baby who was born around 8:00pm on the 29th and the baby's mother picked us to parent the baby!!! The call came to my DH's cell and I thought I was dreaming when he woke me up. We loaded up the car this morning and headed to where the baby is. I got to meet him just before noon, 12 hours after I first heard about him. He is BEAUTIFUL!!! He was 5 pounds, 9 ounces and 19 inches long at birth. He has the cutest face and the longest hands and feet I have ever seen on a baby. We named him William Patrick. His mother did not want to see him or meet us and she left the hospital early this morning. I was kind of disappointed because I really wanted to tell her that he would be loved and adored by our entire clan of friends and family. I wanted her to know he would have a great life. I told the social workers to pass on to her that we would love to hear from her if she ever changed her mind. Our boy slept for the first two hours we had with him. He woke up for about 1/2 hour to eat his bottle then went back to sleep. Oh I have the cutest pictures but I can't post until Wednesday when his mother signs the TPR. She gave temporary custody to the agency right after he was born so when he is released tomorrow we will get to bring him back to the hotel with us. We will have to stay in Ohio waiting for ICPC which could take up to 2 weeks. We live just 2 hours away in Indiana so I think a few friends and family are coming next weekend to meet him. Can you believe just 5 days ago we were devestated when the other emom backed out on us like that? It all happened for a reason. Thank you guys for all your thoughts and prayers. I will keep you all updated as things progress!

I just read all 5 pages of this thread. During the first 4 posts, I couldn't believe the turmoil that you and your dh were facing. I couldn't find the words to reply. But, then I kept reading. . .
How wonderful the outcome was for you! Enjoy every minute with your little blessing!!
