OT: old greeting cards

I am sitting here going through a big box of greeting cards I have collected over the years-- all the ones I have for our son are going in his scrapbook but what about the others? I have started a scrapbook with announcements, Christmas pics etc that our friends have sent w/ pics of them, their kids, dogs, fish.....Does anyone have a fabulous and creative idea what I can do w/ the others that dh and I have exchanged? I know someone here has THE perfect suggestion!

I don't know about the ones you want to keep, but I recycle Christmas cards into gift tags...Cut out the main part of the card with a fun set of scissors...

I have all our cards that we're exchanged too. So sad the other day something on our table leaked, and it soaked a pile of pwperwork waiting to be filed. In it were the cards I gave DH for fathers day...including his first card from Ty on his first fathers day. I was so upset...

When we were getting married I found the perfect dress, except for the fact that it had a train and I didn't want one. So I had the seamstress cut it off.
I used the fabric from it, as well as one of our wedding invitations, cake napkins and favor wrappers as the background for a photo collage of our wedding.
When DD was born, I used the same idea for a giant photo collage dedicated to her first few months. Maybe something like this would work?

My kids' school does the Santa Sale at Christmas, where all the kids shop for their parents/sibs/etc....

Like Aclee suggested, we take recycled Christmas cards and make gift tags, then send a bunch home with each child, so they can write the names of the people they are buying for, then bring them to the sale to tag the gifts...

As for the rest (Christmas and other holidays, or days in general), we give half to the preschool/kindergarden room so they can make cards for whatever holiday/special day comes around, then the rest go to nursing homes where they do the same thing...

My DH's aunt has saved every card she's ever received. She's 70. Can you say fire hazard?

My nana has kept all the cards that she and papa have gotten since they've been married (they're in their 80s).

SO a few years on Halloween someone hauls out what must be like a giant planter type vase thing FILLED to overflowing with cards. Each one of us got to take a guess at how many cards there were. There was a winner in each age category (kids birth - 12, 13 - 21, and 21 and up) and each winner got a special Christmas present from Nana.

Then we all sat around that Christmas reading all the old cards they'd received. It was actually a lot of fun and I think it was kind of special for all of us (though Leigh is right - I don't know WHAT we're going to do with them once they belong to us!)

I realize this isn't exacly an immediate plan for what to do, but should you end up keeping them forever it can always be something interesting later....
