Thanks for the info Storm!

Always wanted to add that I've read children with darker skin don't absorb Vitamin D from the sun as quickly or efficiently as lighter kids, so they need the supplements even more. Also - if you live in climates with little sun in winter or use lots of sunscreen it obviously effects natural Vit D exposure/absorbtion.

Our neuro doc said we should test A. for not only a lack of vitamin D, but vitamin B12 also. She said there is a rise in the number of kids who lack both of those vitamins.

Yikes. E drinks so much milk and we spend at least an hour outside every day (plus he's so fair) I really would be surprised if he lacks it but I would like to know too!

We have a tox screen coming up (for lead) I may ask for that too!

Apparently it is not just our children that are lacking in the vit d department. There is a growing number of adults also deliquent in this dept. I was having some thyroid test and the dr went on and tested my vit d level. I never dreamed I would be low in that dept. I drink lots of milk and stay outside in the summer. However I was tested in the winter months and that may have been part of it, but my level was half what it should have been. I now take 50,000 unit once amonth to hopefully keep it up.
