A match before home study?

So we just submitted our application for our home study on Friday. I don't even know if the agency has recieved it yet. Well, I just found out about a possible birth mother in the city my parents live in. It seems like I was meant to learn of this situation, because it came to me in a very strange way.

I don't even know when the baby is due, but can we be matched with her if we don't have our home study done? I know that our agency does expedited home studies for an extra fee, what is the shortest time that it could take to get the home study done?

Probably. We were called out of the blue by our agency and told our son's birthmother was pregnant and wondered if we would like to match with her for a second adoption. This obviously happened before we got our homestudy in order so for a private adoption I don't see why not.

Good luck,
Dawn

I found out on a thursday night that our dd was going to be born on Tuesday (and Monday was a holiday) We had not even looked for a lawyer or an agency as this was somewhat of a surprise. So I basically had Friday to get it all together. On Tuesday (after seeing our newly born daughter for a few minitues) my husband was off for the "emergency" home study. Two days later they came into my house for the first "in home" study and the next day she came home. It can be done very quickly.

Yes, it is possible. My dh and I went through an agency and found out about a possible match through a friend before we even had our first meeting. Because the request for info came from the expectant parents, the agency was able to speed our home study up considerably. Our FBI fingerprints cleared just days beofre our baby came home! In our case, our agency was only willing to speed up because the request came from our son's firstmom. They worked to accommmodate the wishes of the expectant parents, not of the adoptive parents.

we had a possible "situation" of a friend of a friend's baby....I called my agency and they said that even if the HS was not completed, we could be named as "legal guardians" until the HS was completed. i don't know if this is possible in your state...good luck!

Yes! We had a match before the home study was complete, although it fell through. If the expectant mother was with an agency, they might require a HS done, but if she's not, then in most cases you basically have the length of the pregnancy to have the HS completed.

We have adopted 6 times in just over 6 years and only for ONE of those was our homestudy complete at the time of our match. We did a complete homestudy update in like 3 days on two occasions. So it is definitely possible and makes things sooo much more interestingly chaotic Good luck!

It happened to us!!! We were actually presented 4 times and the third time was our new daughter! Our social worker finished up our homestudy after our new DD was in our arms!
I will tell you that you will have to have a completed Home study to get your ICPC granted! We waited 2.5 wks for the rest of our HS stuff to get done....and THEN the paperwork was submitted for ICPC! In total, I spent 3 wks in the Philly area....while my husband was in VA working and my kids were in TN with my parents. It was a hard but happy time.

GL!
