OT: Growth Spurts Anyone?
So I'm sick as a dog...have been for like a week. Today, my voice is mostly gone...I left work early and finally caved and made an appointment for tomorrow AM, there by insuring I will be completely recovered at that point.
During the last week, Tyler has outgrown every item of clothing we have out sized 3-6 months. Everything. Arms, legs sticking out everywhere. We have 6-9 month stuff unpacked, and I THOUGHT all of it unpacked. I was getting really nervous because it seemed like there was never anything clean for him to wear that fit. Mike brought him over to Grammie and Papas on Sunday while I stayed home dying with a 3-6 month shirt on that made him look like a sausage. I found 6-9 month pants, but it seemed like all his shirts were dirty...So off I sent him. Oh well, they already think I'm the worst mother ever cause I work, is an ill fitting shirt going to do too much more damage? Likely not. See, Ty messed up everything by not growing how I planned. now he had this whole growth spurt and left me wondering if in my calculations on his size I had planned for him to be 6-9 months in summer, so I had no warm 6-9 month clothes for him? Really could I have done that to my baby? I laid in bed last night, wide awake, coughing up a lung wondering if maybe I WAS the worst mother ever. I finally comforted myself with the fact I could go through the 12 month bins and find the smaller stuff to get him through till I could scout out some stuff on sale, or on freecycle or e-bay or whatever...I even thought about going to the mall I was so worried! So I went to sleep. Fast forward to today and I finally admit I'm sick, and leave work. I spend 1.5 hours on the phone between trying to get a hold of the dr's office, getting a hold of them, waiting on hold, and leaving messages for the nurse....all to find out they can't see me till tomorrow. FINE. I lay on the couch 1/2 wishing Ty was here to cuddle, 1/2 knowing he would only be screaming and pulling my hair out... So I drag my bottom to one of the upstairs storage bedrooms (well it will be Ty's room someday) and pull out the 12-18 month winter bin when light dawns. IF I have a 12-18 month winter bin...WHAT exactly is in the closet, which I have so that we can double hang?? I fling it open to find 2 neat rows of 6-9 month winter stuff...complete with multiple jackets and buntings and hats and holiday apparel for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I sit on the floor and laugh. Seriously...*I* was worried Ty didn't have enough clothes? Paranoia should be posted as a warning on a cough medicine bottle! Anyway, Ty's bigger now! Dr's appointment tomorrow, so I'll let you all know...but I am secretly hoping he's close to 50% for height and weight ![]()

As I mentioned in the other thread, my daughter is a budding giant, lol. She grew exactly as planned from birth through six months. Then all of the sudden she skipped right over a size!
She was into 12 mos. pants and PJs at Christmas time and let me just say, I am disappointed in the clothing industry. They apparently do not expect babies to be in 12 months clothes on their first Christmas, because pickings are slim to say the least. So I do feel your pain. (The growth spurt part anyway). DD is off the charts for height and in the 60th percentile for weight. Feel better! ![]() |

I feel your pain too!! My daughters are 2.5 years exactly apart - so completely opposite seasons. #1 was big, and #2 is little, but not so little as to go back to what #1 was wearing in the same season two years before KWIM?? So I am doing what you are doing... Re-checking all that I have packed away....
DD #2 at 8 months is wearing jammies now that #1 wore at 4 months.... She was 15 lbs 2 oz a month ago... And I also feel like I have a lack of warm clothes.... I keep putting short sleeves on her, and then putting a sweater on her!! Ty is a cutie, he'd be a cute match for my Katie later!!

Really? Ty will be 11 months on Christmas and either wearing 6-9 months still or 12 months...I already have frist christmas outfits etc in both... I DO think stores buy fewer of them in the larger sizes though, but mine are all hand-me-downs, so everyone else did the searching for me maybe! Tyler will NOT cooperate with ANY planning I do. When summer hit, I had not one item of clothing that fit him. Who would have thought my 5 month old would be wearing 0-3 still? But he was! everything I had for summer was 6-9, so I went out and bought him some 0-3 stuff and I swear by the we got home, he out grew it. Good thing I bought it second hand. Then we went and bought him 3-6 month stuff for summer which he did manage to wear, thankfully! Now we're into fall, and he has is 9 month appointment tomorrow (it's early, but the lady that booked it must be a moron or whatever) and he's just getting into his 6-9 stuff, so he's catching up! Go Ty!

At 12 months my daughter dropped from the 25%tile to the 4th for height. At 15 months, she had grown 3.25 inches and was in the 50%tile.
Can someone explain to me why baby clothes always come in sets? She is now wearing 12 month pants and 2T in tops. Talk about hard to find clothes that fit. It's either one or the other. |
