Help me with names!!

Gang, as we near the end of our info gathering stage, I get more giddy with excitement about our next child. And with that giddiness comes a sense of nervousness - whatever shall we name him or her?? I know some of you have some very creative ideas - unfortch, you'll have to save creative as we have a very long and very Polish last name...hence our sons Sam and Luke.

But, seriously, can you all give some good suggestions?? I bet you can!!

Here's what we have so far:

Boy

John Paul (not John, not Paul, not JP, but John Paul) - I just like it and DH is a huge Beatles nut

Cole

Brady Andrew (Andrew is DH's middle name)

Jack Anthony (Anthony is DH's name)

Girl

(after my beloved grandma): Kathryn Grace - "Kate"

Josie Kathryn

Can you see why I need you all??? Many, many thanks!

Julie-You know how excited I am for you to be adopting again. The names I like the best are:

Brady Andrew
Kathryn Grace "Kate"

I know you said you liked the name Emma but thought it was too popular but I really like :

Emma Grace or Emma Kathryn
how about: John Andrew
I know I am rambling. I will try and come up with some more names.
HUGS!!!!

Hey Jules I just read some interesting articles on a.com about naming, including this one:
Ask the Author: Choosing the Right Name for Your Baby
(sorry I don't know how to link it).

That's funny - if JD would have been a girl, we would have named her Grace Kathryn...after MY Grandma!

And I like John Paul (not because I am a beatles fan, but because I'm a Pope fan - must be the Polish in me)

I personally wouldn't pick John and Andrew because those are pretty popular names. Your child may be one of 4 children in a classroom with the same name. John Paul the name of a pope so people may assume your catholic (unless, you are of course). I like the names Cole and Emma Grace.

Yeah I agree go "uncommon" E is going to be one of four in his class with the same name (I'm sure) which is exactly what I DIDN'T want!

I love all Irish names: Griffin, Tatum, Broderick (Brody), Patrick, Quentin (well not sure that's Irish)....also Andrew (also) and Scott

I know your DH loves Soccer what about Reinaldo?

I also love whimsical names for girls Meadow, Luna, Skye, Zoey, Cricket and boy names for girls j'adore! Stevie, Sammy, Billy, Colby

Another beautiful elegant name for a girl I think is Phillipa. pronounced fill ip a

So excited for you!

Two of my favorite baby name sites:

Popular baby names
This one will give you the popularity of different names according to the census. It goes back at least a 100 years I think so it's interesting.

Baby names and meanings for naming boy and girl babies.
There is an advance search function on this one that I like. And it's got a lot of info on each name.

I think naming a daughter after your grandmother would be beautiful. My daughter's middle name is my great grandmother's.

I would recommend checking the popularity stats on "Jack". I absolutely love that name. But I also know a LOT of Jack's that were born in the last year or two.

When our 3rd son was born I wanted Jack (well Jackson but call him Jack, my favorite Uncle was Jack and I really really like the name). Then while I was pregnant the movie Titanic came out and suddenly there were lots of Jacks. So we named him Cooper because it was (at that time) more unique and a little unusual. Of course he is in 5th grade now and there IS another Cooper in his class!

My oldest is Tyler and there were 2 Tyler's in his kinder class, which is why we were trying to be unusual with Cooper. My middle son has NEVER had anyone with his name in class -although people will say that's the same name as my Grandpa or My FIL is named that. So at least one of our kids is the only kid in class with his name.

I tend to be pretty whimisical with names and DH is very down to earth so it's amazing we agreed on Evangelina at all. I think I finally wore him down.
Our top five girl names were Evangelina, Claire, Quinn, Elisabeth and Kira. I still like all of those though I think Claire is too popular now.
Had I been given my way, DD probably would have been Francesca, Ainsley or Rowan.
I like Cole a lot. I've met a couple of little Coles, but not nearly as many as the Andys, Pauls, etc.
In large part I do like more classic boy names: Simon, Samuel, Maxwell, that kind of thing. The only exception is Zane. Dont know why I like it, but I do.

I named my son Nicholas because there are so many variations on the name including Cole. He goes by the name, "Nico". Nice way to maintain the traditional while adding a creative flair!

My son is named John -- he's turning 18 this week -- and throughout all of his life, he's often been the ONLY kid named John. Why? Because every other kid his age is named Brett, Brandon, Andrew, Matthew, Ryan, Marc, Jared, Zachary, Joshua -- or even more "creative" names.

Nobody seems to be naming boys the more traditional names. I named him John simple because I love the name. And in my family, there has been a man named John for at least 6 generations.

And no one has ever assumed we are Catholic, but so what if they did? My John is a John Robert, since his dad and grandfather were both Roberts. (And I am a Robin, too.)

I vote for John. It's simple, masculine and classic. And in my son's case, it suits him perfectly.

Robin

Thanks, all!

Lovemy2boys - I totally know what you mean about John Paul. That's another bonus to the name. We are Polish and we are Catholic. Well, I am not personally Polish, but DH is half Polish.

Storm, I can't go uncommon. I just can't. My maiden name was Julie Edited out at Julies request. Do you want to know how many teachers in my entire elementary, middle, high school and undergrad career got my last name right? One. One solitary person. My German professor. So that is why my parents gave me an "easy" first name. I am on my knees thanking them. (for the record, it is pronounced Kling-bile, not BE-UHL)

My last name is now Edited out at Julies request There isn't a day that goes by that I don't have to spell it and pronounce and receive comments about. (For the record, it is pronounced "Americanized" as Edited out at Julies request.

So, I think we should stay easy (but hopefully cute!) on the first names. KWIM?

Holy Cow @ Julies maiden & married last names (which were edited out at her request...)
