Can they fly him up?

Most major airlines allow pets to fly.

Our neighbor transferred their dog from Florida to Michigan...They made arrangements with the airlines. The prior owner took him to the airport, my neighbors picked him up. It cost $300.00, I believe.

"Dakota" flew Northwest. He enjoyed his flight but was unhappy with the new baggage charge.

Thank you, Boxer (and thank you for your wonderful service!). They looked into it but apparently the humane society has stopped doing travel (who can blame 'em with the gas prices). There "may" be someone who can drive to NY in a couple of weeks(which would be so much easier for us than NC). but i'm missing those wonderful early puppy days and I want to meet him NOW!!!

There is Yahoo transport group too, it might be that you can tag onto one that is existing. The issue with using a "legal" transport is more than the actual transport, it's the fact that our state requires a quarantine when the animal arrives in the state.

I did a trip to SC and back when we got two of our dogs. I'm a dogs smuggler...lol I brought back 8 dogs. We were supposed to keep one, but kept two (long story!) We did the trip because we waited 4 weeks for the rescue to try and get him up here, and in the end it was going to cost us about $350 to bring him here by transport. When he went for his final check up (so we could have a health certificate waiting in case we got a last minute transport) he tested positive for heart worm, and they said if he wasn't at least scheduled for pick up within a week, they would put him down. There are so many dogs down there, if there is anything even minorly wrong with them, they put them to sleep. So off we went and I figured if we were going anyway, and driving a minivan, we might as well load it with dogs...so we did. I did a lot of rescue work for a while, but then we started working on the house, and now we have Ty. I still have a few contacts, so shoot me a PM if need more help. Let me know where the puppy is etc. I would also contact rescues in our state and see if they can help.

There is also a forum somewhere where truckers or people travel will transport things...more than just animals. You basically post what you need, and people respond with what they would charge you.

Good Luck!

Aclee, he's in North Carolina....any leads? I love that you are a pet smuggler...haha!

This puppy is so adorable and was about to be killed! I can't even imagine....I had a purebred before, but now I feel "moved" to only get rescue dogs.

We used Fur and Feather Van Lines when we got Oscar from Texas. It took a little scheduling since they only make one swoop around the country per month. The quickest way is to fly the animal. I would talk with the breeder about what methods they usually use.

I have 2 purebred resue dogs!! Boxer and Chocolate lab. My boxer is an abosultely beautiful speciman of a boxer. Not just saying that because I am proud doggie mom. I get asked ALL THE TIME why I don't show or breed him. (NO WAY WOULD I EVER!!) I have also recievced emails from people who have seen his pic and would like him to model!!! I'm thinking about it!!! And all from a free doggie!!!

One of the dogs we got was a purebred black lab...common to get purebred from down there, especially if they are larger dogs.

I will send and e-mail to the rescue I work with in SC, and see if she knows anyone heading up this way. I would really check the Yahoo group though...

BTW we are going to NY city the weekend after Columbus day. If you get the puppy that far, we'll bring it the rest of the way to MA if you want.

I want to see pictures too!

Here is my man: Maverick's Web Page

Sorry - Doh on the purebred thing (I should have said I will never pay a breeder again!)! Of course there are pb rescues (there are some where we are getting Maverick).

Aclee, you are so sweet! I am waiting to hear back because there "may" be a guy going to Syracuse next week. That would be perfectly doable for us. NC is a haul!

I am waiting to hear back from a few pet "transporters" too.

Boxerlady, I love Boxers. Working group! Ajax was my bernese mountain dog. he was an abolutely perfect specimen and my DH still kicks himself for not trying to get him into "modeling"....heehee! but what dog wants to do that! I bet yours is gorgeous!

If someone can bring him to Southern VA, I'm willing take take him as far as Baltimore, MD. We'll be headed that way soon to finalize our adoption.

Anyone in Baltimore wanna head North. We can start our own little transport thingy.
