Anyone have PCOS?
I know this question isn't about adoption or kids. However, I thought I'd ask about PCOS on this site because I figured the chances of people having it on this board are probably higher than average.
Sorry, this is long. I go to an endocrinologist and a GYN. I went through fertility treatments over 2 years ago. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism during fertility treatments. Yesterday, I went to a dermatologist because of horrible acne, and facial hair growth. I went over my symptoms with her and she said it sounds like I have PCOS. SHe's going to contact my PCP, Endo, and Gyn. She said I have most of the symtoms of PCOS. I told her that my gyn found a cyst on my ovary during my last appt. but didn't send me for further tests. She's going to coordinate care with all my MD's to figure out what's going on and treat me. I went online today and looked at the PCOS symptoms. I have about 80% of them. Right now I'm a little mad at my other MD's for not doing more. And I'm scared about the possibility of a PCOS diagnosis. It said that there's no cure and that women with PCOS have a 4-7x's greater risk of heart disease. I'm also a little disturbed about the possibility of going bald after menopause (among other things). I guess I'd just like some comfort, advice and words of wisdom right now. Anything will be greatly appreciated. ![]() Thanks!

I've had PCOS for a long time, probably since I was around 15-16 years old, but it wasn't diagnosed until last year, I am now 29.
If you do in fact have PCOS ask about Metformin and Spironolactone. The Spiro will help greatly with the acne, and the metformin will help with your cycles. Good luck! It sucks to have PCOS, but it's easier to handle if you know what the problem is.

My fertility MD tried me on metformin a couple of years ago (but never told me I had PCOS) and I had really bad side effects to it. That's when DH and I decided to stop the treatments (clomid didn't work either). The derm said yesterday the most common treatment is birthcontrol pills and mentioned the other med you just listed.
