I wanna adopt my step child

Hello everybody my name is ruby (male) and here's my story.
I got with my wife about 9 years ago and she had a child from her previous relationship. The child was about 2 years old and the father was still in the picture but he was good for nothing. threw out the years I tried to keep a good relationship with the bfather, as I know it is very important to keep that relationship for the childs sake. After a while the bfather stopped all contact with the child. Its been about 5 years now since last contact and now my wife is pregnant. I love my step child and I consider the child mine now. She keeps writing my last name on all her school work! I want to legally adopt her and give her my last name. She is now 11 years old and wants the same. I went to the court and got a whole package to begin the process. Is there anybody who can help me start this up. THANKS EVERYONE

You might want to post this under the step parent forum on this board. I am sure there are others who can give you direction there! Good luck.

It's a pretty simple process - although it differs from state to state. It won't be quick because of the notification stage. The bio father will have to sign off...do you know if he'll do that? That could be the sticky point...even if he isn't using his visitation, he may not sign away his rights. Just fill out the packet with all the info you know and the state will help you go from there! Good luck.
