Anyone's child on Zantac?
My son is 20 months old and has always had problems (though infrequently) with gas. A couple of times a month he would get horrible gas pains. It usually happens after he's been asleep for awhile. He wakes up screaming and writhing around. We give him gas drops and usually within 10 minutes he burps or passes gas and then is fine.
I told the MD about this and he said to call if it got more severe or frequent. Well, over the last 5 days, it's happened 4 times. He also hasn't been eating very well since he hit 18 months, but I'm not sure if it's just his age or what (he's gotten fussy). Anyway, I called the MD today, and he was put on Zantac 1.5 ML, 2x's a day. Is anyone elses child on this? I thought it was a little weird because he doesn't spit up, vomit, or have diarreah when he passes the gas. Any words of wisdom or experiences will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We received a baby that was already on this. I've taken it several times for ME; but honestly, I'm not too keen on a little baby having to take it.
However, once I knew what the previous family was feeding this baby, it didn't surprise me to know she was on Zantac!!!!! I don't know what kind of diet you have your little one on, but I would urge you to consider what he's eating---now---that might be the problem. Zantac is great.....but he's still so young.----and yet I know MD's seem to use this a lot anymore for wee ones. (sigh) It's common for parents to put their kids on grown-up table food at easlier and earlier ages. And yet, you'll hear that this is a common problem for children who have stomach/intestinal problems. Oftentimes, their systems can't deal with all of this just yet. You MIGHT try cutting back on some of the things you're giving him. I have no idea, but the simpler the food, the better. If you go back (as we did with our baby girl) and start little by little again, you may find your answer without having to use Zantac again. This is what came about with us; and she went off of Zantac very soon. Good luck. Sincerely, Linny |

Two of my dd's were on it - although they were placed on it as infants and not toddlers. Both of them were over reflux by their first birthdays. I don't have the toddler experience, but I just wanted to say that my girls were on it for about 9 months each without any problems or side affects.

Cameron has really severe GI issues and was on Zantac in the PICU before I asked them to just switch him back to Prevacid (which works much much better for him). His GI issues aren't going away any time soon, so I just have experience with a baby. Hope you find some answers.
