I think it is completely natural to envision what your child will be when they get older but not to force them or IMHO suggest it to them. Let them suggest to you or explore their options without adult influence.

That being said, I see DD either as a dancer or an actress. She faked pain this morning so eloquently. She was trying to get daddy to stop playing with her hair but was allowing me to (don't ask I couldn't figure out why either). Anyway, every time he touched her hair she would cry as if it hurt. When I did, she just relaxed. Well after him trying about 4 or 5 times, I did it again and she cried as if it hurt when she thought it was him. We pointed out it was me and then she laughed hysterically as she knew we caught her. all this at only 18 months, actress it might be.

My kids always come up with things that fit them to a tee. I feel my job is to help them learn about that career and what would benefit them in the long run if that is what they really want to do. My 7th grader is set on being an architect. Funny...we've never known anyone in that profession and I never mentioned it. So, we looked up what type of classes would benefit him and he chose those electives in middle school that aid in that career (it's so computer based now). My middle son wants to be in the CIA (hey, Crick...maybe they could form a PI office). We looked it up and he was surprised to see you needed to know more than how to hold a gun, hide around corners and pick a lock. It has driven him to do better in school.
DD - well, that's a whole other story...
I guess my biggest thing is that it's great to have a dream - don't all kids in sports want to play professionally? But, I like my kids to know that realistically - there needs to be another plan.
