Locator?
Not sure if this is the name of the show but I saw an ad.. a man knocks on this lady's door and when she opens it, he says, "I have a message from the daughter you gave up 20 years ago!"
It seemed insulting to birthmoms the way he said it, all acusatorily (is that a word?) or at least incredibly insensitive and NON-pc, esp for a tv station. I think this is going to be an obnoxious show. |

I haven't seen the show but he was on Fox's Mike and Juliet yesterday reuniting a birth mom with her daughter. Mike and Juliet used horrible adoption language ("gave her up" was repeated again and again).
OMG, I felt so bad for the birth mom, the DD and the birth sis. It was just seriously awkward ....I don't know why anyone would agree to do this on national TV (except maybe this guy offers his services for free?). Do you remember that horrific FOX show: "Who's Your Daddy?" It could be worse, I guess! |

Yes!!! I saw the add too, and it totally shocked me. You'd think someone who works in locating birthmothers would make an effort to use the right language.

Well, I saw the show and I actually thought it was pretty good... Mind you I wasn't looking at it from the point of view of it being insulting to anyone involved in the adoption triad, merely as entertainment. But, as an adoptive mom I thought it was a touching, little bit tear jerking
show. Also, not all the episodes are about adoptive families. One was about a family who had been separated by feuding bio parents. I am going back over, in my mind, trying to remember if it was insulting in any way. I do agree that there is a lot of educating that needs to happen, as far as language is concerned, when it comes to issues of adoption. I truly believe that most people are just ignorant, not intending to be insulting, if they are using the wrong verbiage. I try to see it as an opportunity to educate, and not get insulted. Just MHO. ![]()

I actually posted something like this almost word for word a couple of weeks ago. However , after watching the show, I believe (if they could use better termonolgy) it's a pretty good show.
