OT: Roomba and Scooba

So DH and I just bought Roomba AND Scooba. I'm really hoping that if we run scooba every day, it will keep up with the dog hair. I've heard it will. Counting on these little robots to keep house for me! Plus I HATE washing the kitchen floor, or the hard wood for that matter. Ty is close to crawling and we have to do something...

Let's hear it from anyone that has these...especially if you have animals. Please tell me I didn't just waste all that $$!!!

I soooo want to know also!! I am seriously considering giving them a go.

Questions for the 'Ba pros:

1. We have a kitchen and hearth room that is hardwood. It is up 2 stairs from a sunken living room. The little guy will have sensors to have him stop before plunging to his death, right?

2. How are your pets with it?

$400 is like 5 cleaning visits, so it would actually be economical for us. And I would love to have floors so clean I could eat off of them - since my sons DO!

I'd LOVE to have those. Let us know how they work. We have lots of stuff on the floor all over the house though so it wouldn't work out so well

We've got a lot of stuff too...exersaucers, highchairs, that kind of thing. I'm hoping everyday we can throw the stuff on the couches (well not the highchair, it will clean around that actually) and then let roomba go right before we leave for work. The dogs are kenneled while we work anyway, so they aren't an issue. We go 2 of the virtual walls, so it should be able to do almost all the rooms in the house while we are away, depending on how we set the lighthouses up...Scooba we might have to run at night or something. I think we'll only do scooba every few days....which is more frequent than the once a month I wash the floors now....

We just move stuff....chairs up on tables, recyclable bins into the hall. Literally takes one minute but you have to do all that even if you sweep or mop or vacuum. Vacuum that looks weird....is that the only word with two uu's? Jules you would know.

Yes Jules I have heard it has censors....they are so smart i love watching her bump into things and then turn around and look around before settling on her new path. It's sooooo cute!

I think you will be surprised how heavy it is. A dog couldn't really stop it unless it was a tank of a dog.

I've thought about these, but wasn't sure the first models would be able to contain the dog fluff we were seeing from 3 dogs. I was afraid they'd get tangled up. We typically vacuum every other day (it's easy enough with hardwood to just run a canister). But seasonally I was going NUTS with our one dog's shedding. I couldn't believe she wasn't bald with all the hair coming from her..and this is a BIG BIG dog...tons of hair!!! We used the furminator, constant brushing, etc and then we just gave in and had her professionally groomed...WOW what a difference in shedding!!! If you have a really good groomer the cost 1-2 times a year is totally worth it! Let use know how they work for you and how the dogs are with them

If it helps with the daily upkeep and takes one more thing off the to do list I could totally get behind it!! (I could see my one girl cornering and "herding" the Roomba all day so let me know how your dogs take to it!!)

Strollers, highchairs, makeup, vacuums....Stormster is Consumer Reports for a.com

We should start a "what's your favorite" thread out here
gadgets, perfumes/makeup, appliances, electronics, baby gear, foods, etc..

Oprah has her favorites...we should each list 5-10 of our own "must haves"

We have a herder too...Not planning on using it much around them...maybe scooba. They are too expensive to risk my 80 pound lab deciding it's her new toy. I can totally here my corgi barking at them though....

Funny you should mention this because I just saw it on one of those home shopping channels and the set of them was around $300 if I remember correctly. We had the roomba a few years ago and it wasn't really that great and after a while we never used it, because it really didn't clean too well so I found myself doing it over anyway. The dog would run away from it. We ended up giving it to goodwill. I think the new one would be much better because it's been improved and it has that base that it goes to and sensor so it "knows" where the floor is dirty and also it cleans each area 4 times.
