BTW, snopes.com claims the book banning claim is false. Just another ugly rumor...

I don’t think it’s a rumor.

When she was mayor she did asked the librarian about banning certain books. The librarian was shocked and told her no. She later wanted to fire the librarian but people objected and she backed down. They wanted to have an election recall about that.

Uh, people have been saying things about Obama for a LONG time. It's not racist unless the comment has something to do with him being black. I dislike Palin because of some of her beliefs and because in her few interviews she has shown that she is in the dark about many issues. That should scare us because McCain is not a spring chicken. He has battled cancer and there is a good chance something could happen to him. In that case Palin would be our president. I don't want McCain to win but I don't dislike McCain. However the thought of him winning and Palin becoming our leader really, honestly scares me.

How is that being mean? I have not called her names or made fun of her glasses. I could care less if she is a mom and running for president. I could care less if her daughter is pregnant (however if Palin is advocating for abstinence only education this makes me wonder why we should believe that will work when her own daughter got pregnant.), my fear is that we will have someone like her who appears to be clueless running our country.

Do you have the newspaper article for this? I would love to read it.

Here is a link to one of the many internet news stories. This one is from abcnews. The original article was written by a reporter named Paul Stuart from a local Alaska newspaper called the "Frontiersman". I'm sure with some digging, you could find the original article. Although this is something that allegedly happened 12 years ago. Amazing how it's suddenly news again. Gotta love politics.

ABC News: Did Sarah Palin Try to Ban Library Books?

What scares me ...

I am thrilled that the country is so "into" the elections this year and to be taking part in such a historical election (by voting only).

What scares me is that the next president will likely be in the position to name some of the supreme court justices.

And I am not too thrilled to have another president with "cowboy" approach. We are dispised around the world enough as it is.

My two cents.

Imagine if Hillary Clinton had given the same interview that Palin gave to Katie Couric (or Gibson). She'd have been crucified, and laughed out of Washington. The bar for Palin is so low, it's collecting dust.

.

We really are, and I think about this too. It's arrogant to think we don't need to be liked and respected by the rest of the world.

Speaking of which I read that she didn't have a passport until fairly recently? Surely that can't be correct, can it?

I know several people - both Republicans and Democrats who were former Hilary supporters considering voting for McCain - who now say they are voting for Obama because Palin scares them so much.

I am an Obama supporter, but I have always respected McCain. But Palin scares me on every level. I really thought no one could be less appropriate for running the country then Bush - eight years of Bush cronyism and incompetence have driven this country to the brink of disaster. But God help us all, I really think that Palin could be worse. And I've lost a lot of respect for McCain for making her his running mate.

I was just watching the news, and there is a biracial family that lives one city over from me...they had swastikas spraypainted all over their Obama signs...disgusting...

Then I see a pic that says McCain/Palin with a picture of Anna Nicole Smith and her 100 year old husband...

Then today, my friends ultra conservative friend emails us a picture (obviously photoshopped) of Obama shining Palin's shoes.

I can't wait until November 4th...I mean, I know this stuff happens every 4 years, but it seems like it gets worse and worse...

Trust me, there are a lot of people who think he should be doing just that( shining shoes), and Michelle should be the maid, despite the fact they are both IVY LEAQUE educated professionals. My goodness!

P.S. I still don’t understand how a person, who went to five colleges before they graduated with a B.A., can become a V.P. nominee.

I have to say, my extreme and overwhelming dislike of Palin has NOTHING to do with how many colleges she went to, because I don't know anything about WHY she went to so many colleges before she graduated. Did she take time off to raise a family? Were the schools not the right fit? I know someone who went to I believe 3 different colleges before he graduated, basically because he is an extremely creative thinker who kept getting bored and dropping out. Once he finally found a school that could keep him inspired he got his degree and then went on to get his Masters degree in urban planning. He is one of the smartest and well-read people I know and if he ran for office I'd vote for him in a second (which he'd never do - he's too shy). So just saying I'm not sure if the mere fact of attending multiple schools should be a mark against her.

I have to add my two cents, I am not happy with anyone who we have to pick. How many others feel the way I do? We have so many major issues and I feel that not one person who we could pick would be right for the job for different reasons! The US is headed downhill, we need adoption reform, we need child abuse prevention, we need better laws in place for the parents of the kids I foster, who get to keep going back and abusing the kids, doing drugs and getting chance after chance. We need better special education! We should have better teachers in the classroom-maybe have all classroom teachers with masters degrees teaching? We need better animal abuse laws because if you abuse an animal in my mind you could end up abuse a child. Sorry...here I go off topic again we need to change WIC and other government programs and stop allowing people to milk them and have them set up to help people who really need them and no live off them. We need huge change and I don't see that happening with anyone that we get to pick! Just wondering who else feels like I do? FYI it would be great to get a bigger tax break for adoption (yes even failed or scam) and fostercare etc.

I don't put much stock into the college degree in general anyway. I mean, Lincoln was homeschooled and didn't attend college but he's seen as one of our greatest Presidents ever. So I'm with Saya on this aspect...it has nothing to do with my support or non support of a person.

I remember when I met my husband, I realized he went to two different high schools and then two different colleges. I thought that was kind of weird (of course, he is weird!!). But I am honestly voting based on my politics (heck, was there anyone "sleazier" than Bill Clinton? but I loved him and how I remember longingly that surplus!).

I think the debate was kind of a "draw" (i fell asleep halfway through) so I think TH's VP debate will take on more importance than one normally would.

I have to say that I am really passionate about this year's election (I always am passionate about Presidential elections and even Congressional elections). I think it is good that people are talking. I just hope people end up voting (of course, especially young people because without them I don't think my candidate can win!).
