My 8 yr old dd wants to adopt
Riding in the van, out of the blue, my dd tells me when she gets older she is going to adopt her baby. I was thinking, aw she wants to adopt because her baby brother is adopted! I asked her " so honey, what has made you think about wanting to adopt?" her reply "Well, I don't want a DR cuting my belly and taking a baby out, that HAS GOT TO HURT! So I'll just adopt. That and the babies need a mommy and daddy because they don't have one"
I'm like "WHAT?" LOL!! I tell her that not all babies are delivered by c-section, that some do come out of your privates. She looks at me and says" Is your privates big enough?" I reply"Not normally, but when a woman gets ready to have her baby her privates get big enough, then after you have the baby it goes back to it's norma size" She looks totally disgusted, throws her arms up and say's "Well I am definately adopting!" Then she asks if she would go into a room and can pick one out. I guess she was thinking about orphanages. And she said the baby has to be a girl and atleast 2 or 3 yrs old so she don't have to change diapers! My mind was boggled, lol! Then she proceeds to tell me that she and 2 of her cousins(girls, about the same age) were talking about this and they've all decided to adopt! The whole time I'm driving, trying to figure out how to explain it all to her. I'm still shaking my head at some of her comments! |

That is so precious! My two 7-year-olds have also expressed an interest in adoption - mainly because that's how OUR family was made and they figure it's the way to do it!

All three of my kids have created their birth/adoption plans...They'll adopt first and be sure to give a home to a child that needs one (internationally and an older child - which is how we became a family) and then they'll decide if they like having kids and will "maybe" have one the real way (their words). I just hope they marry women/men that go along with their lofty plans!

My 8 year old wants to adopt too. The whole time we have been going through this adoption process she said she wanted to adopt. Because having a baby would hurt "more that 100 paper cuts in the same spot".

Reminds me of me at that age. I didn't like the idea of having a baby either (too late for me now, but anyway) so I would always say "If I want to have babies, I'll adopt them because those ones need homes."
A word from someone in an unplanned pregnancy, if (general) you have a daughter that expresses the desire to not give birth, don't begrudge her when she needs help getting/staying on birth control! Last edited by MoonlightLoveAngel : 08-29-2008 at 12:08 PM. |

Not only is this very cute, It shows that adoption is gaining respect and providing other options. Not the hush hush world it use to be. I am so glad we are all raising kids that are educated on the matter and will help educate the rest of the world.

I could totally have seen myself saying something like that when I was that age. I remember in my high school biology class when we watched a video of a woman giving birth, and all the girls in the class were saying "I'm NEVER having children!" or "I'm insisting on a c-section if I ever have a kid!"

That is funny. My 5 year describes adoption as when you get a baby to babysit and then just keep them. I had to tell her teacher that we were persuing adoption so she didn't think we were kidnapping kids.

Kids are so amazing! I wish everyone would embrace adoption the way they do!
