Rash ?
Hi all, my 10 mos old has this rash that is freaking me out. I've called her ped and they told me not to put anything on it and if it doesn't go away in 3 days to bring her in... well that's all fine and good, but it's still freaking me out. The 3 days are not up, but I'm not going into the weekend with this rash unchecked and plan to take her in tomorrow.
My question is WHAT IS IT?! and how did it happen to my baby?! She's not sick, no fever, no real irritability (outside the normal ) It started under her belly button and her inner thighs, I thought it was diaper rash and started the Boudreaux Butt Paste. It spread over her belly and to her chest and down her legs a bit! EEK!Can anyone give me any idea what this could be? I've googled and Webmd and I'm sorta settling on heat rash... I think. Any other ideas? It doesn't follow the pattern of measles... they are little fine bumps, no oozing or open sores of any kind... but it does itch. This has literally kept me awake at night... and has me close to tears everytime I lift her shirt.

We have had a nightmare with rashes. E has had Staph, a Fungal Infection (the hardest to treat) and Impetigo. We have tried everything and for him the thing that works best is something called Altabex (which was doctor perscribed).
Nothing like Bordeaux's really for rashes like that and nothing in the bath but plain water and/or Cetaphil. We have all the yummy California Baby stuff but I don't let him near ANYTHING (even natural stuff like Tea Tree or Lavender can be an irritant). So that's the first thing. You need to first make sure it's not systemic so you do need to go the doc. If you can go straight to a pediatric dermatologist. We struggled for months but when he saw a good Pdoc Derm everything was completely under control. It's better to put nothing at all than diaper rash cream on a rash when you don't know what it is btw. Keep her cool and dry in a loose diaper. Did you introduce any new foods or products? Did you take her temp? Is she outgrowing the size diaper she is in? Let her go diaperless but yeah call the doc. It might need something like our Altabex or a pediatric anti fungal or steroid cream or anti biotics or all or nothing but you need a doc to tell you. I so feel for you with the "what happened to my baby thing" ugh I'm so glad his rashes are under control now. I had sleepless nights too.

Thanks for commiserating with me Stormster! I will find out more later this afternoon. Again, she's acting normal... and the rash seems to be a bit better. But I would really like to get a definitive answer so I can avoid doing, whatever I did to bring this on.

Yikes you're not going to believe this but E's rash is back. It's just tiny red speckles but that's how the bad one started. I am doing the same protocol as last time. I have all the meds the doc said this might happen. Ugh ugh ugh.
Well let me know what happens, I'm really curious. By the way for normal diaper rash there is this cream from England that is yellow in a yellow tube. IT is different from things like Triple Paste and many of the white popular ones here because it has Titanium base rather than a Zinc base ....NOTHING else works on him. I haven't seen it here but I can try and find it for you if the doc says it's just diaper rash. It's seriously magic.

Could it be eczema? Bella had a bout of it around a month ago (first time). It started only on her lower back, and then spread all down her legs. No temperature, no irritability, but scratching a bit. We called and the on-call nurse said the same thing - don't put anything on it and wait a few days. When we finally walked in, the pediatrician took one look and said "It's most definitely eczema", gave us the steroid cream and in two days, it was all gone.

The doc said it was viral and prescribed Zyrtec (OTC) and HC 1 % cream. She also checked for strep and that came back negative... yay!
As I kept pressing the doctor for causes and how she came into contact with it the doc basically told me she just picked it up "from being in the world". I guess... I still plan to Clorox wipe down the house!

Clorox is a huge irritant though so be careful with that stuff!
Glad it's nothing serious! ![]()
