Now I'm getting completely OT (this thread is cracking me up) but Fadzi and Paige combined have me thinking about the funniest headline ever from The Onion: "Gay Man Admits To Being Governor Of New Jersey." (No offense to you jerseyites).

I remember my nephew (sexual orientation unknown at this point..he is 18...) always begging to wear his sister's clothes, play with her dolls, etc.. He was very "flamboyant" and came down one day when all the guys were watching the NFL wearing a tiara and a pink boa. OMG....everyone sort of "stopped cold" and I just took him and said how adorable he looked. (To say that I think he has gotten a "bum deal" from my family...especially my homophobic brother is the understatement of the year).

I think many men (including DH) are "trained" to be uncomfortable exploring any of their feminine side...makes me sad!

On another note, I have to say it's been so interesting with DD. I really wanted her to be a tomboy but from day one she has been a total "girlie girl" diva. As an infant she would look thru toy magazines, and get "angry" on the pages of traditional boys' toys. There was something on this recently...I will try to dig it up.

Oh, and Paige, I think you are forgetting about our friend J. Edgar Hoover!!

In High school there was a German exchange student whose grasp if the English language was very proper. We told him one weekend that one of the guys was going to come pick him up for some male bonding time. He looked really confused, and asked what male bonding was. One girl pipes up, like if you guys got together and made brownies...that would be male bonding. Another says, Yeah, or you went shopping...that would be male bonding. So his face lights up and he says, OH...male bonding, is guys getting together to do girl things, but without girls?

yeah...we were falling out of chairs laughing...he was totally serious

That is hysterical!

Sorry your thread has gone haywire, Stormster. It's been fun though.

Loveajax - I had a cousin who was just like that as a kid. When he was 7 he asked if he could be the flower girl at my aunt's wedding. Fast forward 15 years and he's straight as an arrow.

Sbaglio - I think you make an excellent point. It shouldn't be a bad thing to "act like a girl."

They are pretty cute

This thread has gotten pretty pear-shaped, hasn't it? Someone just threw a spanner in the works for the whole thing. *Bow before my command of British-isms*

Anyhow - those Lots to Love dolls come in various facial expressions for all the races. But some of them look pretty freaky or like they're screaming or possessed.... DS's is fairly normal looking, I think it's the Hispanic one, my mom thought it's skin tone looked most like him (he's BR AA/CC).

Brought this discussion over to an e-mail with my daycare provider who shared that one of he son's favorite color for a VERY long time was Hot Pink. I guess one of his older siblings (she has 11) called him Gay...guess where the boy who loved hot pink is now?

In the middle east fighting for our country!

GO boys who love hot pink...may there be millions more to always protect our freedom (not that I agree with the war, but you gotta support the boys (and girls) that are sent over there!)

Let's also remember that lots of those amazing boys (and girls) serving in the military in the Middle East ARE gay. It's OK to be both! There was a great article in the New Yorker recently about a AA gay officer who sadly was killed a year or so ago. I'll try to find a link.

My oldest ds had a doll for a couple of years. It was an anatomically correct "boy" doll that he named Mikey and the two of them were inseparable. had a family day care and one of the little girls really liked to play with dolls and Nathan discovered that he did too but none of our dolls were "boy" dolls. We went to the store and he insisted on checking each and every doll to see if it was a boy.

BTW Nathan is the rough and tumblest boy you could meet but he also has a sweet caring side. His best friend and roommate in high school came to boarding school with the stuffed animal he had slept with since he was two. The two of them were terrors on the lacrosse field but and decidedly heterosexual. At the same time my older dd NEVER played with dolls of any kind. She was also a serious tomboy but ds #2 s much more "FABULOUS" and never had any interest in dolls.
