Aclee - Now between 1-3 I don't know. I think political affiliation is very iffy at that age. But none of the men I know who still wear heels are Republicans!

Maybe at that point the anatomical correctness just takes it to far or something...

haha! That's true...I think a lot of republicians are closet high heel wearers though...or maybe the high heel wearers are closet republicians... Wait this isn't being nice...this is totally talking down to any guy that really does wear heels...calling him a republician? I'm so sorry

Anyone see the hubbub about M. Obama last night. I guess she put on her unhappy face when B.Clinton got a lot of applause? Heard it on the news. That ain't good M. This country loves that man...regardless of what he did to whom where and with what.

Well THIS has been a fun thread to watch morph! I've laughed out loud several times this morning...might have even snorted a time or two!

Stormster - every kid needs a baby to play with and perhaps blow up with fireworks! As for dress up...all in fun!

And since I can't resist...last year we had a state representative, an R, resign in a scandal when he stiffed a male prostitute in more ways than one. I kept on thinking..."why, oh why didn't you just pay him?"

Okay, at the risk of being totally stereotypical, there's a song by Madonna that I love called "What It Feels Like For A Girl". The first stanza is spoken by a little girl in a sort of mournful voice that kind of hits you when you hear it:

"Girls can wear jeans
And cut their hair short
Wear shirts and boots
'Cause it's OK to be a boy.
But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading
But secretly you'd love to know what it's like
Wouldn't you
What it feels like for a girl?"

I think that underlies a lot of the discomfort about boys dressing up in girl's clothing. I loved Star Wars spaceships and trains as a kid, as well as my black Tonka truck (where did that thing disappear to??), but I was also fascinated by my sister's huge array of dolls. I'd fight one against the other, but also play house with them (and my sister), or dress them up. My aunt (maybe seeing something in me that I didn't see myself) bought me a Ken doll and my sister a Barbie the same day, and that was my favorite toy - until I got a new Star Wars toy. And I turned out to be gay.

There was a very interesting 60 Minutes about this issue several months ago. Try to search for it on the CBS website.

All gay men (virtually) were born and raised in straight households. We all got socialized to be straight men. Didn't work out too well. Do girls who play with trucks and such become lesbians? So why would it happen with boys?

DD (and any other children we eventually have) can play with whatever toys she wants.

Not wanting to change the direction of the thread too much, but felt I had to put this out there.

I guess at my daycare it is okay for the boys to dress up and play as they wish...because it's owned by a republican. Although...I guess I have to stop at letting the girls get under the tables..that's a democratic thing according to Bill.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Funny story:

One of my co-workers relayed this to me just this week. He was home for a vacation and his mom, who is aging and showing early signs of dementia said, "What did your father and I do wrong for you to turn out the way you did?" He replied, "Mom, I'm 44 years old! I've been out of the closet for 25 years, why are you asking me this now?" She said, "Not THAT! You're a lobbyist! What did we do wrong?"
