One nephew has Wiggles dolls while another plays with his younger sister and her dolls.

On a side note DD plays withcars. Definately plays with whatever she wants

I'm guessing mine will play with both.

Oh, that's one thing that is a must for every kid.....a doll stroller. I have yet to meet a kid who didn't love them - even if it is just to cart around their other toys.

A has one of those pottery barn babies - it wears a diaper and sleeps in a cradle.

He plays more with with "action figures" and dinosaurs. But I have to say a lot of the activities with these remind me of things I did with dolls. Like when his dinosaurs were "having a meeting" or when we have to carry to dinosaur puppet, named "Buster," everywhere - like the bookstore and the bank...

It's just that his dolls are meat-eaters that roar or they shoot webs.

I saw a father and son in the park one day and the little boy had a toy stroller. I told the father I was impressed that he let his son have a toy stroller. He said "I had to get him one, otherwise he was playing with all the pink strollers in here"!

AJ was 2 when JD was born, so my mom bought him a baby so he could take care of it while I took care of mine.

We'd feed them together, and hold them and eventually it went away...then AJ turned about 4, rediscovered the baby, and a stroller...

He'd put baby in the stroller and hightail it up and down the street as fast as he could go, so JD had to get one too...They loved those babies, but alas, at almost 5 and 7, they've lost their lustre...

TGmom - JD used to carry around one of my purses...When people asked what he had in there, he'd dump out about 100 star wars guys and CARS vehicles...

The little guy I nannied had a Bob the Builder soft doll and he had one of those soft dolls that teaches kids how to use zippers, buttons, snaps, etc. I think kids should play with anything they like as far as toys go. I would have been devestated if my mom said no to all of my trucks, hot wheels, & skateboards. I was a total tomboy (only girl who even attempted welding in junior high home ec metal class). Now I'm comfortable with a mixer AND a power saw. Little boys who play with dolls will grow up to be compassionate men....husbands and fathers

Cameron has one of the military, hug a hero, "daddy dolls". For those who aren't familiar, it's an actual doll of my DH in uniform. It has a little voice recorder inside of DH telling Cam that he loves him. We'd prop it up across from Cameron when he was in the hospital, so whenever he woke up he'd see Seth. Out of about 5+months in the hospital, Seth missed about 2, so it helped I think. The nurses loved the idea.

One of the first things my mom bought for Daniel was a soft little African American baby doll. It's very cute. He doesn't pay it any more mind at this point than he does his stuffed animals (If it doesn't make noise when he bangs it and it's not useful for teething, he's not too interested right now) but I like the fact that he has one for when he's older and into imaginative play.

My stepfather was absolutely horrified that he had a doll!! I think he's worried that Daniel's masculinity is threatened by the fact that he has two mommies.

It always made me sad that a lot of parents felt upset or defensive when their kindergarten sons would play in the dramatic play area in my classroom. I would have to talk some dads out of forbidding it! How can we expect men to be nurturing fathers when we raise little boys with the clear message that nurturing behaviors are only for girls? We had dolls, a great kitchen area, and dress up clothes. Some of my boys LOVED putting on the dresses and playing with the dolls. Kids learn by imitating adults around them - and there is rarely anyone more important to a 5 year old boy than his mommy.

We also had a great wooden dollhouse and both the boys and the girls would fight over whose turn it was to play with it. Of course, they played with it a little differently . . . The boys would often play games like "Who can get the father doll to land on the toilet from furthest away?" or "Drop the family through the chimney."

Thanks!

Stormster...nobody but you has such awesome questions! You rock!!! No boys here except for d/h and while he won't admit to ever playing with dolls my M-I-L shared a video of him dressing his male dog in a yellow tutu and red fuzzy shawl type coat thing w/ 4 hot pink plastic boots and being very happy with the outcome! Kinda thought he was Jose Eber in the making. Don't use this as a predictor of future nurturing abilities; my son screams anytime d/h comes near him holding articles of clothing! He is not good at dressing the baby. Maybe the baby has seen that video, too.

My nephews have dolls; Greg is about 4 and he has like the dolls with plastic faces and stuffed bodies that he sleeps with. He doesn't play with it often but when he was younger he fell in love with a pair of mini- high heels that you find at Target that his playmate had; he loved the clickity- click sound they made on her kitchen floor so she got him a pair and he is all rough and tumble boy. Tracy

DS has a "Lots to Love" doll that my mom bought him. He's only 8 months so take that into consideration - but, he does like to play with it and well, chew on it mostly but that's what he does with everything.

The brand is a little controversial because it is a fat baby but they do have an array of skin tones/ethnic features available without over-stereotyping. They are also available as anatomically correct or not so if you're sensitive about that, keep in mind the correct ones are *ahem* very correct. At least the boy is, that's what DS has.

DS's doesn't have any clothes right now but if he decides it's his lovey that he has to take everywhere, we're going to have to invest in some doll clothes!

This cracked me right up. Ty is too young to play with much of anything (but yes he has a soft baby doll), but WHY can I already picture him running around the house, high heels clicking, with three dogs trailing behind him while I laugh, and DH looks VERY unhappy?

Storm - they're made by Berenguer and just called Lots to Love baby dolls. I think the manufacturer's website just sells them in big lots for distributors but I'm sure you can find them somewhere. Or maybe you want a dozen, who am I to judge?

My mom got it for DS - she's into dolls/antiques/collectibles so she got it at a doll show from one of those distributors.

Happy shopping!
