I almost forgot....I use to watch a little boy who when he heard Elmo's World song...would RUN SCREAMING from the room. I didn't realize it at the time, until his sister was like, "He hates Elmo." And yes...he did. He didn't even like looking at him in a book. I found that one out at the library!!!! So I totally understand being afraid of hippos in tutus. That would kinda like if I decided to put on a tutu and started dancing around..there would be some scared kids.....

Back to politics...I called a friend of mine who is a lobbyist in Alaska and asked what he thought of Gov. Palin...his response: "great now we have a Stuffed Shirt and a Vacuous Skirt on the ticket". I thought that was rather harsh and as a feminist I shouldn't have snorted...but I did.

Wish I could help more but I haven't seen anything since Wicked! (It was great) I loved Avenue Q as well though the muppets do have wild sex so don't see it with your parents (I wanted to die, yeah I still get really embarrassed in front of dear old dad). OHOHOH Jersey Boys I liked. THat was actually the last one. Bill and Chelsea were in the front row and people were going crazy!
We were going to get the invisible fence for our Chihauhuas but I thought it would give them a coronary. Edited to add: See how I married musical theater with politics in the first paragraph? I'm good right?

Stormster, was Bill having sex with one of the muppets? (hahaah).
Paige, that's hilarious. My brother just called me to tell me how HOT he thinks she is. I don't see it, but dang, she does look pretty good for having five kids! As the mom of a biracial DD, I do think that it is "cool" that there will be history made in November. |

One of my best friends from high school had a Cabbage Patch Doll that he'd had from the time he was little (he was born in '82, so it was one of the first ones probably!) He was very protective of it. Very manly-valued guy here.
A male friend of mine when I was 3/4 had a kitchen set (complete with rolling island/stovetop) that I coveted like crazy. My little cousin used to play Barbies with me at my house all the time, even though I had "boy" toys myself, like cars and a train set, which he also liked, we would always end up with the dolls and stuffed animals somehow. He's more of the quiet bookish type that falls in the neutral zone of guyness. DH liked action figures, but had plenty of female characters as well as male, as well as non-gender creatures/monsters. He's also a neutral-type guy, and nobody mistakes him for feminine (except sometimes from the back because he has very long hair. Then he turns around and they see the full beard and feel silly...) My BFF identifies as transgender, MtF (born male but identifies as female). From studying trans issues, one of the harder things growing up with MtFs was that many of them were not allowed to play with "girl toys" because of the stigma. Friend has often said that she would have given a leg for some baby dolls, Barbies, tea sets, and those plastic glitter dressup shoes. |

Storm: They put live animals in heels and tutus?! OK, the guy who does that job now has my respect for life!
Musicals: My fav is by far Phantom of the Opera. It's an oldie but I love it. DD's current favorite is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. The scene at the barn raising where they all dance is a must see in my house. She's also a fan of The Sound of Music (I was most recently in that one). She has never been an eater and switching her to solids was a nightmare. The only way I could get her to eat was to sing My Favorite Things over and over. Incidentally, I had DH and the waiter at the Olive Garden singing it with me when DD was about 10 months. Les Mis was one I had to see twice before I liked it. Of course, the first time I had a migraine. Ever had a migraine during the cannon fire sequence? I almost puked all over my boyfriend's dad's shoes. Oh! I just realized I can do a politics tie-in. His dad was a senator! Ha! I'm so proud of myself. |

Child's Play Chucky 12" Talking Good Guys Doll NEW - eBay (item 200249712890 end time Sep-02-08 17:58:18 PDT) Nikki, my happiest memory every year was being able to watch the Sound of Music (I think it was Easter time?). My sister and I would "fight" about who got to be Liesl, etc.! I love that your DD loves My Favorite Things. |

Oh...I LOVE Phantom too!!!!! I saw it in Toronto when I was in High School. When it came out in the movies, my friends and I went to see it then sat in Mel's van and sang along to the soundtrack. Yeah, we are lame, but what do you expect from a former mayors daughter and her friends. (there that was my political tie-in) And seriously...I am now thinking WHEN CAN I GO TO NYC!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? |
