I Had A Scary Dream
OK it's almost 2pm and I'm still upset from a vivid dream I had last night. I don't have a therapist so you're it.
I dreamed that we were home, DS, DH and I and I didn't see DS. Looked around and all I saw was the basement door ajar. I call out to DH to find out where DS is but he doesn't know. We run all around the house including the scary prospect that he fell down the basement stairs but we don't find him anywhere. Then as I'm searching (and this is the scary part) my eyesight starts to fade! So not only am I frantically LOOKING but then my sight fails. Then I woke up. I'm so shaken by this! Does anyone else have disturbing dreams like this? What does it mean?I hope someone replies to this and doesn't think i"m a freak!

You are not a freak. I too have had dreams where suddenly DD is not there and I am desperately searching for her. Actually I had that really happen. She had gone into the living room and was in her favorite corner but from the angel of the door I couldn't see her. I searched the whole area she had access to (our house is small on the main floor) at least twice calling her name and she didn't respond. It freaked me out for days.

I would have been freaked out for days too! My girlfriend has a 4 year old. One day after returning home in the car they all settled in and she looked around and her daughter wasn't there. She looked by the door (family always takes shoes off when they enter....how do you train people like that?) anyway, no shoes! They start really flipping out and guess what....she decided to stay in the car and take a nap! My friend still tells that story so obviously she's not over it either!

Wow, stayed in the car. Not sure DD will do that as we don't have a garage to park in. Anyway, OT - I get our family to take shoes off too. Not when we have a party but DH, SDS and I all take shoes off when we come in.

From interpretive therapy 101, I would say that you're scared that you may lose DS. Perhaps as in misplace, perhaps as in him being taken away from you and you'll never see him again.
On the shoe thread ... DD takes off her shoes as soon as she walks in the door, oftentimes sitting too close to the door for us to even close it after her! Neither DH nor I take off our shoes upon entering, so it's either from my mom or from the fact that K just LOVES taking her shoes off and on (and off, and on, and off, and on).

I had a look and find situation in real life the other day! My DH, DS, and I are currently living with my parents during construction on our home. So my mom and I were talking in the hallway and my DS was crawling down the hallway with the hairdryer (he loves that thing). I kept looking in the dining room and seeing the cord laying there. After a few minutes I told my mom I better go see what he's doing, awefully quiet! I go out there only to see the hair dryer there and no baby!!!! I looked in the dining room - nothing, family room - nothing, kitchen - nothing.... by this time my mom is looking too and I'm totally freaked out. I happen to go in the bedroom and there he sits playing with the cd player on the floor. At some point, in a split second he had doubled back (down the same hall we were standing in) and went into his room!!!!

Fis I read your post with my heart in my mouth!
Mini I think you're interpretation is accurate.

I used to dream that I'd dropped DD on her head....I don't even need to bother interpreting that one.
Real life: DD fell asleep one afternoon so DH just put her on the love seat and went into the kitchen to load the dishwasher. After a few minutes he stuck he head around the corner to check on DD. No baby. And the stairway door was open. (Major no-no when I'm home, which I wasn't). He frantically searches downstairs, upstairs and back again. He didn't go into the bathroom, the door was closed so DD couldn't be in there. Finally he opened the bathroom door and there she was, standing in front of the bath tub. She'd woken up, gotten down off the love seat, crawled into the bathroom (DH left that door open too), closed it behind her and was trying to take a bath. As for shoes: We take our shoes off when we come inside. My Mom and Grandma always made us and it stuck. |

Scary dreams freak me out for days too. I feel for ya, stormster!
I had a scary moment a couple of weeks ago... My almost 4 yr old ds usually sleeps in so I knew that I was going to have wake him up to get him ready to leave the house early one morning. His very 1st day at daycare, so I was already tore up! I go into his room and he is not in his bed. I call for dh and asked him if he's seen him. NO. So we look around his room, in the closet, in the bathroom, living room, my room, sis's room, kitchen, everywhere. I am really starting to freak out. I'm calling him, dh is calling him, no answer. I check the doors. Finally I decide to look on the other side of the couch by the wall, there he is, just sitting there! I was about in tears. I don't even remember why he said he didn't answer us, or what he was doing there! I was just so glad we found him. I was seriously about to panic! |

I've had a few where Benji was drowning and I had to rescue him and do CPR. I wake up so upset after them. Early on I had one where I forgot to feed him all day.
They are all anxiety dreams. We love our kids so much, of course we are anxious that we will lose them. You may be crazy, but not because of your dreams .

I had a horrible dream right after I had my oldest son (who is now a senior in HS so you know it impacted me if I still remember it). I must be like Ajax because it involved drowning. For some reason we had the newborn baby at the ocean and we were surfing I was holding the baby and then the waves crashed and I let go and I kept trying to find him in the waves. It was very traumatic, I woke up shaking. I still think of that dream when we are at the beach with the kids (17 years later you think I'd be over it). I have no idea what it meant but I kind of blame it on the Tylenol w/Codine they gave me after my C-section. Or maybe I'm just a freak too.
