Anyone use a different agency post-placement?

Because of the home study issues we have had, we really want to use a different agency for post-placement, when the time comes. How do you go about this? Do you just call another agency and ask for their post-placement services? Once the errors in our home study are corrected, we are so done with the agency, we really don't want to deal with them anymore.

We were told we could have the first time, but we did not. (We had a not so great experience with our first agency. Not as bad as yours though.) For us, the agency was listed in our ICPC paperwork as the supervising agency. So, I was too fearful to address what we would need to do to change that. (Ours was a last minute placement.) I did call around to local agencies and ask about services and all were willing to do it and told me fee structures. My advice: if you want to change, figure out now so you will know who to put on all the paperwork.

No but our agency director said you SHOULD if you are uncomfortable with them, that it's no big deal (but you do have to let your agency know ahead of time who will be doing it for ICPC paperwork, so look around now!)

I guess we sort of did... A local agency did our homestudy. DD is through an agency in another state so they could not do our homestudy. Also, the homestudy was done with the intention of adopting a different baby from yet another state, but that one fell through. Homestudy agency is now doing post-placement visits since placing agency is, as I mentioned, out of state. I wish the placing agency could have just done it all. We love them to pieces.

Yes, we did. And I completely think you should do the same! I haven't had a chance to comment on your latest issue with your agency, but there is no way I'd trust them with post-placement stuff--they could hold up finalization or screw it up altogether! I didn't really care for my HS agency; they were slow and disorganized. So, thankfully, our placing agency ended up being in our state so they HAD to do the post-placement visits.
