How Soon Did You?

How soon after one adoption did you start the process for the next one?

Our daughter will be 1 in October (08). Our agency will not allow starting the process until the last one is 1 year. So we are hoping to be all updated with the homestudy and paperwork again and be on the "official" waiting list for a match on January 1, 2009.

Our daughter turned one last October, and we updated our homestudy 3 months before her first birthday, and started looking immediately.

Emotionally, I would start now. We will go through Dss next time around so we'll have to do Mapp Classes and all that. Financially, we will likely wait till Ty is a year old, and we get out 08 tax returns, and a raise for DH so we can pay off bills and get back to where we were before our adoption fees. If we do straight adoption through DSS, I will work up till the adoption, if we do foster care, I might stop working, depending on our placements.

I cruise the photo listings, and adoption postings almost everyday. It motivates me to save money and pay off the bills

We weren't sure we were going to adopt a second time (well, I was sure but DH said he felt blessed the first time around and why rock the boat)...We decided to wait until AJ was 2, then see how we felt.

Well, our son turned one on a Saturday, we went to a Christmas party through our adoption agency on that Sunday, where we sat with 3 of the couples who we went through our first homestudy with...On Monday, all four couples called the agency to start adoption #2. Seems like all of the men were on the fence, but after we all got together and reminisced, we all realized where our hearts were...

Our plan was to start again when our sons (twins) were 18 months old, but instead, we moved! So didn't start until they were nearly 2 1/2. Our "original" plan was to adopt a baby, then start again when that baby was 1 - so I think your timing is great!

Our DS will turn 1 September 30. We just had our homestudy updated last week. I updated our profile, our attny and agency have it, so I guess we are "on the books". We may be crazy to be doing this again so soon, but we want to ready in case the right thing pops up. Around the first of 09 would be perfect!

We waited 2 years but we had twins first. It took 2 1/2 years to adopt again. At our agency, they told us that most of the birthmother's they were dealing with requested adoptive parents with no children, so they ever even looked at our book if they wanted a family with no children, that's why the long wait. I don't think they had a certain period to wait though, as far as I know.

DD will be two this March. We'll start again sometime after that. We're still not sure if she'll need some type of surgery or not and that figures in as well.
When we're positive she's where she needs to be and doesn't need 110% of our attention 110% of the time, we'll start again.

My son's adoption was finalized on 8/1/06. My second adoption application was in on 9/21/06. My daughter was home 12/21/06.

When I heard the date of my second application, I was amazed. I had no idea I turned in my application so quickly. My friend reminded me how I screamed "I was never doing this again." And I did and super fast too.

My dossier to adopt daughter number three was submitted 4/9/07. I'm still waiting on the referral.
