Question Blogs

Hi. I wanted to know who has blogs, what made you decide to write them, and how did you go about starting them? I am addicted to reading other people's blogs and am thinking about starting one of my own. Part of me wonders though if I should as I wait to be matched and may have nothing new to report. The other thing is my husband is concerned about having our lives on the internet for everyone to see. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Lisa

We started ours when the baby came. I did post about our journey on my MySpace page though. Both the blog and the MySpace are set to private so only people we want can view it. Unfortunately, I can't post ALL I'd like on the blog because a certain family member of DH's has access to it - would love to be able to vent about her on there - especially since other blog readers (i.e. other family members) know about her antics and are supportive of us.

I have had several blogs over time... A while back I shut one down immediately and made the other by invitation only after receiving several nasty comments. I still have one that is active, but only people I invite can view it.

Mine is a blogspot blog and very easy to set up.

(BTW, if anyone would like to see it, shoot me a PM!!)

Mine is public but very low key... Probably boring too, but I'm just writing stuff I don't mind dh's family to read (in case they find it one day) - considering they don't know much about my life anyway and I'm not going to give much details in there. Nothing personal etc. It's mostly so I can look back when the babies are older and remember their milestones and what it was like at the time.

You could start now... and just update when you have news.

I started blogging a few months ago and have really enjoyed it.
There are a few things you can do to keep your lives confidential.
First, don't share your names (especially you last name). I have chosen to share my name and my son's name on my blog, but not my husband's. Anyone that knows us personally knows his name, but since he is in the corporate world I wanted to protect his privacy.
Also, I am very careful about personal info and anything that could be embarrassing, especially for my son as he grows up.
There are a ton of how to blog sites out there with some great info. Try On Blogging

Good luck!

I have one. The link is in my siggy. I've been doing it for over three years and wish I would have started earlier. It started because I had alot floating around my little brain and needed to get it out. And now it is amazing how chronicling our life has been so therapeutic. It would have really helped me to put my thoughts down during our first wait as well as our second. I write pretty anonymously, using my own name but not anybody else's.

It's funny. Having my thoughts on the internet doesn't bother me. It's my place to talk about life and I hope it helps someone, sometime. But even if no one reads, I do it for myself.

I've been blogging for about 6 months. I know that reading blogs of other gals going through infertility helped me a lot through that journey. I already read back through my posts when I first started blogging and I look forward to reading back years.

I started off confidential and then "came out" with personal information b/c I had a few friends find my blog. I definitely don't tell all the details of everything in our adoption journey, but I will say what is going on in general. It keep all my friends in the loop without having to repeat things a million times.

I use blogspot.com and it's been super easy. My blog's in my siggy.

5.27.08...found out emom/edad are leaning towards parenting and we're now the "back up plan"

8.26.08...we find out birthparents need more time and they take the baby home for 7 days. We were crushed.

I've had a couple of blogs. I like how it connects you to people, whether it's friends and family or new blog buddies.

There are several free blog sites that are easy to set up and post on.

I personally like following along on adoption blogs as they go through the wait too, as well as after.

I now have 2, the original I started while in the HS process. It is open to the public and since so many strangers are able to find it I made a separate one when we began the process of prosecuting my children's parents for sexual abuse. The only people that can see it are people I personally invite. In order to keep our identity secret, I have given the blogs their own personal email, do not say our last name, and do not reveal our exact location.

I have found it to be very theraputic. I have gotten a few nasty comments but so many helpful ideas and thoughts. I can go there write out how I feel and it always feels better afterward. I can't explain why but it does. I love the fact that my children will be able to read about the process of our adoption and life with them as they heal.

I just started one myself and have found it helpful. I get all of my emotions out and it will help T when he gets older... I think. Mine is also in my siggy.

i started blogging with Myspace...

and then moved to blogger.com...I don't do it as regualar as I should. Life gets in the way sometimes. I wish I had more blogs frm when Ty came home, but it was a really awful time for us since Dh was hospitalized almost immediatly. We do have stuff that we wrote down when we were in St Louis for ICPC, so I'm planning to go back and fill in some blogs...

I don't exactly have a blog, but I have a care page for my son. It's a much easier way to keep everyone updated about what goes on with his him while he's in the hospital. It's not easy to find at all and I can see exactly who's looking at it.

If anyone would like to be a part of Cameron's care page, send me a pm with your email address and I'll send you an invite.

I have a blog for business purposes. The only thing I would suggest is to make sure it's backed up. Nothing would be worse than compiling a blog full of memories and life stories only to have it be corrupted or lost one day.

Blogger offers a way to do this if you type in "backing up" in the search area of the help center. There are other ways to do it as well, try googling "backing up a blog" for ideas.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your advice regarding blogging and for your blogs themselves. Veggiegirl, I had to laugh at your post because as I was formulating my thoughts about a blog I was dissapointed to realize that I wouldn't be able to vent about my mother in law on it. (LOL) I have decided to start a blog and let people know about us and our journey, even if we don't have a lot to report at this point in time. My husband has asked that I make it invitation only, which I will, but I plan to invite all of you, my newly acquired forum friends. I'll let you know when it's up and running. Thanks for everything.
