Exchange of BPA bottles

Hey - did you all know that you can take your bottles to Babies R Us and exchange them for BPA free ones?!? Each store has different rules, but for the most part you can do an exchange!

Now the dilemna...which ones shall I exchange for?

Do any of you use the Playtex drop ins? If so, do you like them, is it more of a hassle, how do you heat the formula, etc.?

I'm curious too if any of you have used the Dr. Brown's? They seem to have a lot of different parts and it looks like it could be a cleaning hassle...is it?

A lot of people I have talked to, do not like the Born Free. They have said that the leak a ton and caused a lot of excess gas...any thoughts?!?

I'm leaning towards the Playtex drop ins, but I'm not 100% sold on that idea yet...still trying to figure out the pro's and cons...so any help you all can give me I would love!

I loved Dr. Brown's. Lots of parts but after a bit I didn't even notice it. They helped my little one thru major colic.

We did this already

We planned to use drop in's but Ty has always hated the nipple, so when we got home I bought a BUNCH of used bottles on e-bay, the evenflo comfi ones. They came complete...we HATE washing bottles...so I did have a good bunch of bottles/ Then we got bottles as gifts, and Ty hated them all, so I rounded them all up and brought them all to BRU, and got my credits...$68.98 worth of bottles. Well the BPA free bottles that Ty likes are the evenflo ones, and they are 2.99 for 3. I don't need that many bottles! So we bought 5 packs of the large (15 bottles), 5 packs of the small (15 bottles to be packed away for another baby), 2 packages of the BPA free Dr. Browns (packed away), a 3 pack of the larger size drop-ins (since we have all the small ones, maybe the next kid will like them) and a 2 packs of the Nubby no drip bottles, 3 large 3 small. Given that I paid about $15.00 for all the bottles I got on ebay, we made out like bandits They even took back the Soothie bottles that I bought at Walmart. I did have about 4 bottles that I couldn't return because I had no cover, and I guess I could have bought a package of covers and put them on and go the credits, but we walked out with almost 45 bottles, and it was a PROCESS....mostly cause I had a bunch of different kinds. I figured that 45 bottles is enough for Ty and the next kid, so we called it a day. Call your BRU in advance though. Some (like mine) will take anything, but some are only taking certain brands. Dr. Browns being one of them.

I did this about 2 weeks ago, and I thought everyone knew about this...sorry, I guess I should have posted

Good Luck

I love, love, love the drop-ins! I love that every new liner is sterilized and ready for the formula, and the only thing I need to worry about is the nipple. This saved us with our twins because I could wash out a nipple really fast and pop in a new liner and Wha-La! the bottle was ready for formula! Huge time saver and sanity saver when dealing with babies.

Thanks for this message - I had no idea you could exchange these bottles. We used Born Free bottles for about a week, and saw a major increase in gassiness and crying in DD. The venting mechanism is all sorts of suspect, and you could literally see the air bubbles heading into her mouth as she drank.

We switched back to Dr. Brown's (plastic, with BPA) while looking for glass/BPA-free wide neck bottles. Turns out the company doesn't make the wide neck bottles. We may end up using the standard Dr. Brown's bottles. Needless to say, these were a lifesaver for us. They really do work.

What about Dr. Browns nipples? Do they have BPA does anyone know? Because some of ours are cloudy. I always throw any of our Dr. Browns part away if they get cloudy because i once read it could be a sign that the BPA is leaking.

Anyone know? Oooooh I'm so excited! I bought three BPA Free ones but would love to exchange for a few more. He's just months away from sippys but still!

So you can exchange them after they've been used? I think maybe I'm misunderstanding something. We use the Dr. Browns and they help a ton but they are the plastic bpa ones.

You can exchange any bottles containing the BPA. Used or unused. I called our BRU and they said that we did not have to have a receipt but I have heard that at other locations you do, so you might double check with your particular store before you drive in. I am taking in a whole bunch of Avent bottles that I picked up at a consignment sale! I had planned on using them until one of my girlfriends had a major melt-down. She couldn't believe that I would even consider using them. So, I'm taking them back!

We have been using the drop ins as they seemed to adapt better and easier to use on the go. Also, buying the name brand drop ins was important for us as the generics I found were not made in the USA.

Just called our local BRUs and we can bring back the bottles without receipts...not that it matters that much since he's been drinking out of BPA bottles for the last 11 months

I"m still going to get them so at least I can give use them a few more months and then give them away. Thanks for the info!

Wow, this is awesome, thanks!

I wonder... my DD has only ever drank from Avent nipples... will she accept a new brand with a different shape and feel?

Update...

Okay - I just got off the phone with a friend of mine from Atlanta - TODAY is the last day that her BRU is exchanging them. HOWEVER, I called our BRU here in Wichita and they are still taking them back and they don't know when their cut-off date is going to be, so DOUBLE check with your local store. It sounds like they may be discontinuing this sooner rather than later!

I bought a couples of the polypropylene Dr. Brown's bottles today. They're kind of ugly and look like they're made of cheap material! Well, at least they're free of BPA...
