OT: Portrait Studios

I want to make an appt. to have Ella Grace's one month picture taken next week (Yikes, one month already???). I'm considering Target, Walmart, Sears, and JcPenny because I think they will be the most reasonably priced - think I'll try something "fancier" for 6 and 12 months, but use a lower end place for 1 month, 3, and 9 - I know, probably way too many picutres!

Does anyone have any input on these 4 places? I want something cute and classy yet reasonably priced. TIA!

Well, I have to tell you... I am now in love with WalMart studios... The one where I live has gone completely digital. They can enhance the photos, add text to photos, add borders, do touch ups, and all types of things. The pictures come back in less than 2 weeks and you no longer have to choose from just 6 poses... We had over 45 shots! The appointments are an hour (or more if no one is booked after you) and they are really good with allowing you to change outfits in between poses. Every experience I have had with them has been great and of course, the prices are great!

Also, because they are digital now, you no longer have to have the first pose as your package... well, it is still the first pose, but you get to choose from the first 5 shots of the first pose, if it makes sense...

I just spent over $200 in photos of the boys... all told, that was over 250 pics, and 17 different poses... but I have a SUPER large family.

Hope this helps!

Committed.

I think some of the experiences at those places depends on the staff that works there. I know many people have had wonderful pictures taken by each of these, we have not. We've had an unpleasant experience at Sears, and we had orders lost by JCPenny's and received the the wrong pictures once.

I really like Portrait Innovations. They take tons of pictures and you walk out of the store with them in your hand that day. They will probably take a hundred photos of your child and then you get to chose the pictures you want. They usually have a 9.95 package if you can narrow your selection down to one pose.

I personally love Target. With a print out coupon and the preferred customer card pictures are $3 a sheet. The one where I am is really good and are patient.

We've used them all at one time or another and I've always been really proud of my pictures. But with Natalie, I've been spoiled by Picture People since I can view and purchase the pictures within an hour or so. However, they just opened a Portrait Innovations about a block from my house and I've been threatening to try them out....only problem is that Nat has sort of boycotted picture taking right now, professional ones especially!

Kansasmom....have you used Picture People before? I just wonder how they compare to Portrait Innovations?

I just had my daughter's pictures taken at WalMart. They always seem to do a good job. They always have packages for around $10.00, but each additional sheet is $20, if you need extras. The only thing that I don't like about them is that you can't go online and order more prints or view the prints.

I have used them all. I prefer JcPenney and Kiddie Kandids. Those are the two that I have stuck with...you can find some great coupons for Penney's and you can register online with Kiddie Kandids to get special offers.

We used Sears

For Ty's 3 month. I loved them. We went in to get the "package" and walked out with a lot more. Look around for coupons because they have a great one where every sheet after you pay full price for 6 is only 2.99. That helps us get a lot of sheets for not much $$

SamIam2-I've never been to a Picture People. But, the pic that is in my ticker is one I had taken at portrait innovations. I bought the entire CD of pictures and there are probably 100 photos on it.

Personally I like Olan Mills, The quality is outrageous and the price is not bad, 9.95 for the package (you pick your favorite pose) and if you buy the 1 year membership card (7.95 plus includes a 5x7 and 2 wallets) you get:

No sitting fee for 1 year
1 free 8x10 at each sitting
portrait sheets for 4.99
special coupons arrive in your email once a month or so

Our Olan Mills is located in our Miejer store (like a super walmart) but you can find them in many other stores and stand-alone studios.

The best part about Olan Mills is they are set up like a real studio, no posing tables, huge space for my 5 kids to be natural in and they have been SOOO patient. It takes a long time to get 5 kids ages 6 and under all looking at the camera and sorta smiling. They to are digital and can "fix" portraits as needed.
