Yet Another Cold?
E has ANOTHER COLD. The runny nose i thought was his teething has turned into a full fledged, can't breathe, yellow snotty cold! AGAIN?
It's his fifth cold since his first bad one in January after our trip to England. Is this common/normal? He is so rarely with other kids it seems like whenever he's exposed to something he catches it! (Has been coming with me to the gym and going to their nursery/daycare area.) I'm starting to think his immune system isn't great?! My sister is a pediatrician and she said the average baby has four colds in the first year so I don't know why I'm asking. Just need to hear from other moms I guess.

I would say to listen to your sister!
Although each child is different, my son had back to back colds and earaches until 10 months old. We then had tubes put in his ears and that helped tremendsously. My daughter who is 3.5 years old has yet another strep throat from just getting over one 3 weeks ago. My kid's pediatrician said that it's common. But if it happens again (after this round) I will get a second opinion.

my sister told me tonight it's actually SIX colds a year is common! Isn't that crazy? My best friend's baby only had one the first year! Anyway, thanks.

cold
Our daughter had colds over 6 times her first year. I had her in a daycare home. All the kids were sick at the same time. I just moved her and so far (knock on wood) no colds for the past month. Some of it is probably teething. A month before J gets her teeth in she always gets a runny nose and it takes her so long to actually cut them.
If you are taking her out in public she can catch something from everywhere. Dont worry too much you baby has to build up antibodies. If they dont get sick now once they start school or even kindergarten then they will be sick then. AJ |

That is Kelcee's life. If it isn't allergies it is a cold. It used to be ear infections but that isn't a problem these days. Kelcee averages a cold about every 6-8 weeks. Not fun that is for sure.

I'd love to know if little boys have messier colds than little girls because his is really messy!

Kelcee is not to bad but we get lots of vomiting at night because of the mucous swallowing. She is very good at aiming in a bucket now. But we still have lots of sheets to wash and change late at night.

Poor kid! I don't think E has EVER thrown up (like thrown up not reflux) ... I should probably keep my mouth shut.
But he is a snot head. I'm talkin' eyebrows, chin, hair....shirt....

You might want to try giving him yogurt once a day. When TJ kept getting them, I tried the YoBaby and it really did help. Now I use the drinkable ones and add milk. He has it with his breakfast as a drink and he LOVES them.

I know that my twins seemed to get sick anytime they were around other kids. We would just get them better from one cold, take them to nursery at church, and they would get sick again that week. Our pediatrician told us to stop taking them to nursery! She said their immune systems just couldn't handle it yet. We stopped taking them, and they stopped getting sick so often. So, if E was a preemie (like my twins) or drug exposed, he may have a low immune system and is just able to pick up the bugs a little easier. But don't freak out, my little ones are just fine now, so yours will be too if that's the case.
