Hi all....A-dad here and we're with Amber. Since day 1 we've always included in our nightly prayers a special blessing for DD's b-mom thinking God for giving her the "strength and courage to give DD life and for making the choices she made which brought us together as a forever family." She's 14 months old now and this prayer will continue. We're thinking a lot lately about DD's adoption story in general and how we'll really begin to talk about it but we plan to use our prayer and a few books as tools for the present time and then continue to build upon the stories in the books to follow DD's story.

The thing to remember is this is not a "one size fits all" type of question because you really have to take into consideration when and what your child begins to understand about adoption and their story.

We have talked about it since birth. Sometimes I think I might talk more about it to my DH with my DD in the room just to make sure as she starts understanding that it is not a taboo subject.

It also helps us that we have more of an OA and have a lot of communications and a visit a year with our DD's bmom.

I also started talking to my DD very early on. We took her home from the hospital and she is now 7 years old. One thing I really liked was the Lifebook. I went online and searched for ideas. I made the pages for it on my computer like scrapbook pages and included a page for the birthmom and one for the BF. Even though we didn't have a lot of info about the BF, we still dedicated a page to him with what little info we had. I also included poems and lots of pictures and journaling. The information I found said to make it based on the age they are at the time you make it. Every now and then my DD will want me to get down her book and look at it with me.
