OT-Front loading washer

Hi everyone! I have a question. I always thought that I wanted a front loading washing machine. I told this to my neighbor and she said that the sales guy talked her out of it because you can't open it after it's going if you forget to put something in. I guess I never thought of that! Does anyone have one, and if so, do you like it?

I have one and I LOVE it!! My clothes are cleaner and don't seem to get as beat up - of course my old washer was ancient so that could have been the issue too. My clothes smell better even using the same detergent... I don't know why LOL I also do bigger loads than I used to...

It is true, you cant add clothes after you start a load but it's so worth it. We have a stackable so it was a big space saver as well...

We have one at work and you can not open the door after you start as far as I know. For me not a good thing.

The home I nannyed for went from top loading machines to front loading machines. GE models, those shiny sleek looking ones. I personally didn't like them at all. The baby's clothes never came out as clean as they did prior to (clothes showed food stains where they didn't before). They kept the same brand of soap, only switching to the one designed for these machines (the HE, or high efficenty soap required by manufacturers).
The newer machine itself seemed to take on a musty smell quickly with the doors getting that filmy water build up look. Most people don't keep the doors open with the front loaders like they do the lid of a top loader, so that might be the reason for those last issues I had.
I also found that the loads took so much longer to complete, making me think they might be better with water but they took nearly twice as long with electricity. And no you can't open that door up once you remember you had half a dozen other onesies to throw in!!!
Some really like them, but I'm not there yet

Love mine!

We have the whirlpools (duet I think) and I love them. With mine, if it's only a minute or so into the cycle, then I can still stop it, wait a few seconds for the water to settle, or stop running, and then toss something in. I was pretty sure they all had that feature! Half way through the cycle? No. I don't find these take any longer than our top loader did, and love that it's more adjustable with an extra rinse cycle, and the wash cycles you can shorten or lengthen depending on your dirty level. My only complaint is the times that I'm power washing through my laundry so I'm waiting for it to finish. The last 3 minutes takes 5 minutes. I've timed it...it's so annoying. I love that I can add the fabric softener and bleach or whatever all right at the start, and I've always felt like my clothes are WAY cleaner than before. Even though Tyler is a formula fed baby, we have no stains, and he was a puker too. Normally formula stains really bad, but I've managed to keep his clothes in good shape. I also feel like these washers are a lot easier on the clothing than the top loaders. I have my washer in a closet right now, so I close the door to the closet, but not the washer door..it leaves the washer door open some...maybe an inch. I don't have any smell issues, though once the laundry room is done, I might want to start shutting the door, so we'll see then I guess. I love ours though. Maybe the new top loaders are different though...our was pretty old.

I have one and LOVE it!!! Mine is a Frigidaire. They are stackable and I like that. My laundry room is right off my kitchen so its very visible. They look nice. I can cle3an more clothes per load because you don't have that twister thing in the middle taking up room. I also find that my clothes are cleaner. True - you can't open mine once you hit start, but I'm used to that now.

My front loaders are made by LG. If you forget something you can power it off, wait for the water to settle and throw the item in. You can adjust your wash time to however many minutes you had left when you turned it off. I think my clothes are brighter and I don't have to fight stains as hard. When I am done with the wash I have a chamois that I wipe the gasket inside the door and the glass with. This is supposed to keep that musty smell from starting.

I love my Kenmore Elite. I had a different front loader for a year or so that I didn't like. I was so happy to get back to the Kenmore. It locks the door to run but you can pause it to add something and it will unlock the door. I love that the washer and dryer finish within minutes of each other - about 40 minutes each.

I was convinced I would get a front loader too, until the sales guy asked what my priorities were. I told him, #1 we don't want an agitator. He sold me on the Whirlpool Cabrio top loader because it is basically the same except for the top load, and we'll never have to worry about leaks. What did it for me was my age - he reminded me that getting down to floor level (we cannot stack) to load/unload a washing machine may not be a big deal at 43, but at 53 it will be...and I have a bad back as it is. We've had it and the matching dryer for 4 months and love them so far.

I have an LG front loader. I have yet to notice a musty smell and they work well. I spent the extra money and got the model that has a sanatizing cycle (very cool with a daycare).

I love mine!!!

On mine, you can open the door, but you have to cancel the whole wash cycle and start again. If I forget to stick in a few shirts, I'll just throw them in with the next load. It's never been a huge problem for me.

havent read the other posts but i thought i would add my 2cents. i have 3 front loaders (we have 12 kids - so LOTS of laundry). i love them. they save on water, my clothes are clean, and they fit more clothes in them. i thought i might be bugged about not getting to throw something in after i started it, but im not. i just save it for the next load!

I have Maytag Neptunes...the front load washer and dryer pair and we LOVE them! When we moved 7 yrs ago, we bought them and I will never go back to a top loader. Like most said, I believe my clothes are cleaner. They are less wrinkled. They save on water. My clothes smell so great...people even notice! And I love being able to put the soap, bleach and fabric softener all in at once. I don't have a musty smell at all in mine. I just love them!

I know my parents just bought a pair. They wanted them because you can stack them on top of each other (they are taking down their cab. on top of the washer and dryer and adding a pantry next to the stackable ones). I know that this was a plus for them. For me I like the environmental aspect of them (less water). I think it just depends on what is important to you. They have not gotten them delivered yet, but my mom is SO excited

I have a front load washing machine and you CAN open it after you load it and start it. You press cancel once, it unlocks and you throw your items in and press start again, and it starts refilling. The guy who installed ours told me or I wouldn't have known! But I love this washing machine, the clothes smell awesome!
