Adoptive breast feeding question
I know there's a board for this, but it doesn't seem to get much traffic so I thought I'd post here.
Anabel came home at 8 months and had never been breast fed as an infant (as far as I know) so I never really considered it. But as we prepare for number two, it's been on my mind more. I've just just started looking into the "hows" of adoptive breastfeeding and am trying to figure out if it makes sense. How would I possibly know when to start? I mean once my homestudy is complete I'll have no idea when I'll be matched, or if I'll be matched with an e-mom who's 6 months pregnant or a baby already born. Also, I was looking at "Ask Lenore" and the protocol seems to involve a lot of hormones. I'm sort of loathe to put MORE external hormones in my body after putting so much in me during fertility treatments. Is it possible to do this without the hormones, and if so how? And is there any potential medical risk connected with the hormones that are being advised?

Hi. A big high five for you researching ABF! The lenore site is great, and so it the four friends ABF site. Check out the ABF threads on here too.
I went on the complete protocal at the beginning of Feb. We had a surprise match/placement in April. After all those months of BC pills and the other medication, our match was too quick. I was not able to pump to prepare for the baby. Unfortunatly I quit with him. He ended in a disruption anyway. We were placed again a month later, but DD was 3 months old at placement, and had feeding issues to start, so I did not resume the protocol. I did go on all the medications that the ABF protocol calls for. But, I know that you can try to do it naturally as well. Your supply may be lacking, but you CAN do this. I did have the lact-aid supplementer on hand, but baby did not like it. Contact the person who DDW pm'd you about, she is great with everything ABF. And best of luck to you, I think that ABF can be such a great thing for both you and baby ![]() |
