Did any of you "break down" and buy a minivan?

And if so, which is the best minivan out there on the market....it will either be a Pontiac something or other car or a Chrysler Town and Country minivan. We can't afford a new one so we will have to hunt for a good used one.

Anyone the owner of a minivan and what kind did you buy?

Blessings, Michelle

P.S. Right now we just have 2 boys...but we either want to continue fertility treatments or adopt again in a couple years.

Oh I forgot to mention...right now we have 2 vehicles: a Jeep Grand Cherokee (mine) and a quad cab Dodge Ram pickup (dh's). The Cherokee I loved in the beginning, fully loaded, sun roof, the works...but it really sucks that if I put the stroller folded up in the back, I can only squeeze about 5 full grocery sacks in...SUV's, the smaller ones, that is, aren't really all they are cracked up to be. Dh's truck is nice and roomy but up so high that I would have to stand on the running board to get the baby in the backseat. ARGH! Hence why we are considering a minivan.

Blessings, Michelle

We got an 2008 Grand Caravan (which is basically a town and country with a lower cost)

We love it and the gas mileage is fairly decent. Funny thing is that DH drives it, which wasn't the plan when we bought it. But, he really enjoys how it drives and prefers it to our Explorer and Infinity.

Joann: How many people can sit in it may I ask? I will have to research that type of minivan. I would love all the fixings of the Town and Country and the lower cost, oh my yes! Is it loaded also?

Oh and I know this is a strange question...but does any company out there make a minivan with a sun roof? (I absolutely love my sun roof now that I've had one)

Blessings, Michelle

We have a 2005 Town and Country. We love it. We bought it 2 years used (1 year ago). There is plenty of room in the back for strollers and groceries. Ours is the stow n go and I LOVE that too. it is very affordable and gas mileage is not bad. We actually only have 1 child. But I have had a minivan for 4 years. We keep thinking our family will grow one of these days (been trying to adopt for 3 years). I can't wait to fill my minivan with kids.

I just read your next post. Mine seats 7. You can get them fully loaded and I believe I have seen minivans with sunroofs. Some minivans can seat 8. I believe the Toyota Sienna and the I think Plymouth makes one - I know I have seen several that seat 8 though. Good luck.

Caravan does come fully loaded and it fits 7 people. I'm not sure about sunroofs, but I'm sure it is an option. We love the Stow and go. The amount of space to pack stuff is amazing.

I teach middle school and for field trips all the kids fight over who gets to ride with me because they think all the features in my van are cool. Ha Ha I never thought kids would think a mini van is cool. LOL

We bought ours new because we could get a lifetime ownership repair warranty. Maximum out of pocket for a repair is 50$ for as long as we own the car. DH and I tend to keep cars for 10-15 years so this will be a good deal.

Older van but runs great

We bought a 1991 Ford Aerostar extended minivan a few years ago. It use to belong to a realtor and had very little miles on it. It seats 7 and has plenty of room in the back for groceries, stroller, pack and play, etc. We love it, and we get about 20-21 miles to a gallon in town.

I have a Kia Sedona. I love it! It seats 7. And it has a sunroof! Which I love! We bought it used right after Cameron was born. It is the loaded model and we got an awesome deal on it. I had a Kia car before and never had any trouble. Plus they have an awesome warranty program! The only downside to a Kia is they don't hold their value well. So, if you are only planning to keep it for a few years, miught not be a good idea. I plan to drive mine until it no longer functions well. Then I will get a new one. No point in constantly van-hopping!

My sister has the Caravan and it is awesome! I keep telling my husband that I want one. Funny thing too - her husband loves it as well! The amount of leg room is amazing. They have bucket seats in the middle and then a bench in the back. The amount of storage in this thing is unbelievable. In the "trunk" area it dips down quite a bit and her stroller fits perfectly in that area and so then she can stack and stack and stack on top of it. The tow and go is pretty cool as well. I love that both of the doors open and loading up her three kids is a breeze. If you are looking for a used car I would check out Craigslist.com in your city.

I broke down and bought a minivan last year. We have an odyssesy... I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! I have to agree with the poster that said there isn't much room in the back of the SUVs with a stroller! That's why I got rid of my MDX! Put a stroller in the back...and your about out of space! It's ABSURD!
Oh and you can pretty much get everything in a minivan these days that you can get in any car! Definalty they come with Sunroofs! I could not live without my sunroofs!!
Oh mine seats 8...but i took my plus one seat out.... since i don't need it!

We sold my Toyota RAV4 and bought a second hand Toyota Sienna when we adopted our second child. I needed the leg room (I"m 5'10") and I just couldn't fit another carseat right behind the driver seat in the RAV.
Love my Sienna!! It seats 7.

We had to get a van because I drove a Honda Accord (paid for) and when we got J, I had 2 car seats and 2 teenagers. We bought a new Nissan Quest in October. Originally, it was $27,800 and we got it for $21,700. It's not "loaded, but it has a DVD built in and power windows, locks, rear air and heat. I didn't get the power doors or tailgate cause we would have ended up paying $40K for it.

I love my van even though I didn't think I would! Good luck!

Also have a Kia Sedona here and love it! We are able to seat 7, have the automatic doors, a dvd player, rear air, captains chairs, fold down seats and payed less for it than we would have for a base model Dodge or Ford. This is not our first Kia and we have never had any problems or complaints.

We have a Dodge Grand Caravan and I wouldn't trade it for anything. It even one of the newer, fancier ones but I love it. We bought it used in 2005 and have no plans of replacing it anytime soon.

We also loved the Honda Accord when we were looking but couldn't afford it.
