Hopeful aparents and networking...

I would love to hear thoughts on this from all sides.

Expectant mom upset by offensive offer | Top Stories | NWCN.com | Northwest News and Weather

Basically the story is that a waitress who is 5 months pregnant and not wearing her wedding ring was left a note along with her tip saying that the couple was happily married, financially secure and hoping to adopt a child. This was written on the biz card of their attny along with their phone numbers.

Is this going too far?

Ok, I didn't read the article but that is way out of line! To bad you can't report people like that to a bar association or the BBB! I know we can get desperate sometimes but come on.

That is way out of line. Most women stop wearing their wedding bands while pregnant because it no longer fits! I know it is hard to wait, but come on, just think of how that poor mother feels!

I have to say I'm not really offended as a bmom - If I were pg, considering adoption and this happened, these folks wouldn't get a second thought...

I'm more offended as a woman (who is not married) more than anything. Since when can't single women raise a child - or that they consider adoption?

What's next? Couples going into Babies R Us trying to "filter out" pg women shopping there? Or gee, the local OB office?

Gawd!

Wow, this is AMAZINGLY offensive in my book. It's incredibly presumptious to EVER assume that ANY woman you meet who is pregnant is considering adoption, no matter what her job/age/ringed state.

Yikes.

I have to admit though that I just don't "get" networking. My agency doesn't promote it, and I don't think I'd feel comfortable with it, even in cases that weren't as egregiously rude as this one.

Yikes! That goes beyond presumptuous. Do these people not understand the word "boundaries"? I automatically assume that any pregnant woman (regardless of her age or presumed marital status) is going to parent - unless she says otherwise.

Too rude!

I hope the waitress called the attorney and complained about this behavior. (Sorry, I didn't time to read the articular - if it has the answer!)

Too far and very presumptuous. Have these people never been around pregnant women before? My SIL's all had to take off their rings at about 5 months. It hurt their fingers. Major jump to conclusions.

That's just going too far. Handing cards to random pregnant women seems kinda stalkerish to me.

Well.

Ok...let me play 'devils advocate' for just a sec.

She's 5 mos pregnant? At five months, I wasn't showing all that much - and even if I was a bit, you couldn't specifically tell I was pregnant.

Maybe the couple just happened to leave the card on the table of what turned out to be a pregnant server...but they didn't do it on purpose. Remember, all the networking books tell couples to do just that...hand them to servers, check out clerks, bank tellers...everyone.

I have to think that's what happened....I have to, because if it is anything but that, I might throw up.

Very tacky...very weird. And, I'm with Oceans, what bothers me the most is who cares if she's single? And while I've been happily married for 24 years, I haven't worn a wedding ring for over 20. I just don't like jewelry. I thought about getting one tatooed on once, but then I thought that maybe my 2nd husband wouldn't be too thrilled...so I stay ringless.

Interesting that the couple hasn't responded to calls from King 5 for comment. I'd love to hear their justification...
