Child abuse clearance - domestic

Hi,
Did you need a child abuse clearance from every state you lived as an adult for domestic adoption? Just got an email from my HS agency about this, but I'm not sure if he is confusing us for an international HS. I'll probably get this straightened out tomorrow, but it's bugging me.

I didn't. I guess I thought child abuse was a national registry anyway? Maybe it's not, but no. I only got one for my current state.

I just Googled it, and yes, apparently the national child abuse registry was made law in 2006. Our HS agency had us each send a request to our county's dept of social services. I hope that was the correct way to do this, our FBI fingerprinting instructions were out of date, I had to figure that out myself.

Our fingerprinting incorporated national clearance.

We had to do somehting with every county we had lived in within the past five years. But, I think that is a new Indiana law...

No, we only needed one from the state we live in presently. Not sure if it's different with international adoption since we adopted domestically.

In our experiences, I think some states require a national clearance, while others only require a state clearance. We had to have a national clearance for child abuse as well as any other law infractions (IL).

IMO, a national clearance should take place for everyone......

Sincerely,

Linny

OK, got it straightened out. We just need it done for the current state. Whether that is a national clearing, I don't really know, but it still hasn't come back yet.

Me again! Turns out, the freaking thing WAS done and has been there for over a week. I called the county DSS, spoke with a very nice woman who said it was done and mailed out May 5. Yay, but getting annoyed with my HS agency. At least this should be done soon.
