Everyone tells me our ad looks just like me. I Don't see it and sometimes I wander if they are just trying to "make me feel better" that she isn't mine biologically. Little do they know I cherish the fact that she offers diversity to my family. And in defense of the dozens that have said it, I didn't think my bio kids looked like me when everyone told me that (not as much since they are older). But I do feel like by adopting I finally get to raise one with my personality. Our bio two are totally type "b" personalities like their daddy. Laid back and shy. Me, type "A" and ad also type "a". Love it.

Since everyone else who's responded here has been more in the affirmative, I want to share that, No, my three children don't look like us a great deal at all. My bio dd does favor me 50% of the time, but she also looks a great deal like her bio dad, who is not my dh; her bio dad is great looking, so I don't mind -- and he's been a good dad (just never a role model, which she's always noticed). My two youngest were adopted at birth and like their older sister, are each 50% or more Hispanic -- beautiful features, gorgeous dark hair. My dh and I have light brown hair. The cool thing is that my children look like one another in many ways and I love that. It was never important to me that my children look like me; good thing, huh? What IS important is that my children grow up with the personal qualities, interests and skills that represent our values and hope for their futures: Interests in the fine arts (music, art, theatre), strong in academics, love for learning, very assertive and positive self esteem, candid, enjoy sharing their thoughts, wonderful senses of humor, love expressed, so many special traits/skills. And you know what, they are each developing these interests and qualities -- I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but I do appreciate their approaches to life so very much! susan

I come from a French-Irish background and I have darker skin tone (surprise!). My husband is Czech/Italian and light skinned/blue eyes. Our adopted son from Colombia has only been home a few weeks, but I'm actually surprised we haven't gotten any comments yet. My son and I look alike (same skin tones, eye color, eye shape) but he and his father don't look much alike. My husband still gets a kick out of it when he's out with DS alone and he gets "the looks"; he says they're just trying to figure out what "the mom" looks like. Since DS is still a baby he doesn't notice it yet, but I'm sure he will once he's older and with only his dad.

I will say that we did not choose where we adopted from based on how well the child may "match" our skin tones, but I still love hearing about how he looks like me. After only a few months together we already have so many similar facial expressions and I LOVE the fact he has BOTH his biological and adoptive families' characteristics!
