I don't have a tatoo yet...but my dh has 3 tatooes, 2 of which are visible (on his upper arms) one is a heart with his first wife's name in it (she is deceased) and on the other arm is a skull and crossbones. We adopted through a private attorney and our bmom has never remarked about the tatooes....personally, I view tattooes as works of art...I can't imagine any agencies would discriminate against that, but if you have any "naughty" looking tats, then just wear long sleeves and long pants in your interviews...
Blessings, Michelle

My DH and I both have multiple tattoos, most of which are visible. We never felt discriminated against, no one during the homestudy process even commented. And actually, my son's birth mom has a lot of tattoos and it was really fun to compare them when we first met.

Each agency will have different policies just as each expectant parent considering adoption will have different things they are looking for.
I would not recommend just wearing long sleeves to hide them as that seems dishonest, IMHO. I always think honesty is the best policy.

I'm sorry, but I had to giggle when I read your post. It's funny how much we start to really scrutiniize ourselves when we get into this process, isn't it??
The thing is - There is no set IDEAL adoption. Birthparents all have different interests, ideals, hobbies and lifestyles - so do adoptive parents!! The perfect emom-considering-adoption for your family will find you and all of your tatoo's to be beautiful!!! Don't be so hard on yourself ![]() (I have 4 tatoos) |

I agree, I wouldn't cover them up. You are who you are and there is a perfect emom out there who will think you are perfect too. If you cover them now only to have them revealed at a meeting after TPR, she may feel differently about you if tats aren't her thing. We fretted about our weight. Thinking the emom would want young beautiful skinny people to raise her baby; we were wrong, she wanted us! YEA!! Besides, it is what is on the inside that counts.

My husband and I have adopted twice, and both have several tatoos, and it was never an issue.

Dh and I each have tattoos that are not visible. But I agree this is totally IRRELEVANT to the HS process (unless you get an uptight social worker!) and some expecting moms I'm sure will love them.
The saddest thing is that I got my tattoo (in the center of my butt of all places) when I was young and thin. It was a fairly small purple iris. As I have aged and ahem...grown...it now looks like a giant black cross. Eek. Good luck! |

So OT - but it's funny to realize little things about people you "know" so well - like how many of y'all have tattoos!!! Uber interesting!
I guess I'm odd one out! ![]() ETA: Cupcake's Mom has a tattoo as I recall and it's no biggie at all!

I was thinking the same thing, LOL! For some reason, some of you I never would have thought you had a tatoo, not sure why, lol! My sisters have tatoos that are very tasteful and pretty. I see nothing wrong with at all. I just don't have any! And for OP, I agree with the previous posters that say just be who you are. The first mom of your baby(I honestly believe that there is baby waiting to call you mommy!) will love and appreciate that about you. Beauty is in the eye's of the beholder!!! |

I'd love to see pictures
![]() I doubt you'll be as 'marketable' as say - the non-tattoo'd couple - but you'll match...there is someone out there who will love your art just as much as you do.

Hi,
I have a tattoo which was visible in our profile pages, it's a scarab... interestingly enough we were chosen by an emom who has several ancient Egyptian tattoos and I can only guess that was a factor in the matching process. If you live in NYS or in a nearby state PM me and I'll give you the name of the agency we used. All the best~ |

Funny...
I have a fairly large tattoo on my ankle, and when meeting with our emom yesterday I made the decision to wear jeans just in case - not sure what she would think. When we met, she has really short hair, and a large tattoo in the back of her neck! I should have known by the ease of our previous conversations that she wouldn't have cared! This whole process really makes us all second guess our worthiness on every level! Even relatively minor details about ourselves, like our hair styles, clothes, or body adornments!
best of Luck! Courtney |
