What Do You Do With Baby's Too Small Clothes
Our son is almost 4 months old and has lots of clothes now that are too small. Some he's only worn once and some not at all and some are so cute I hate to get rid of them, but don't want to hold on to them if we don't use them again. I'm wondering what most of you do...Consignment store? Goodwill? Garage sale? Keep for possible second adoption? Maybe I can get some ideas. Thanks!

I kept almost everything. I did give a bunch of stuff to my sister who had a baby 9 months after we got DD! But, I kept all the stuff I LOVED!! Which I have to admit... was ALOT of it!!
Anyway, we are working on number two now, If number two is a boy...then I will probably Ebay alot of my DD's clothes and also try to do a yard sale...baby clothes ALWAYS go FAST at yard sales! So thats my plan! Anyone else!! I have to say...keeping everything... is taking up alot of room in our basement!! ![]() |

If I had storage room, I'd keep them. However, most of mine go to family or friends who can use them. A co-worker has a teenager daughter with a baby of her own. Needless to say, she needs a lot. So many of Hanna's things are passed on to her little daughter. Since people are really generous in passing things on to me, I try to "pay it forward" by passing things on to those who can use them. For things I can't pass on to friends/family, I give away using freecycle. I do have one bin with things that hold sentimental value.

I have a rule. When our boys out grow clothes we can keep 1/2 and must give away 1/2. The 1/2 I give away usually go to friends who I know can really use them.

I'm farily sentimental BUT not about the kids clothes (kind of weird because I'm totally sappy about just about everything else). I get rid of stuff as soon as she outgrows it. I'm (pretty) sure my daughter is the last and since she is my one and only girl, I have bought/had given to her a TON of really nice things.
I just can't keep hanging on to it (it makes me sad sort of that she has grown up so fast and that she is the last kiddo we'll have). I give it to a friend who has 6 kids (4 girls), because I know she can use it and I love to see her cute little girls in outfits Em used to wear.

I have saved some of Kelcee's outfits but I donate them all to my church. They have a store in the community and a lot of the stuff is like new. I also have a friend who's church goes down to Mexico and I give lots to them also.

A suggestion. If you are planning to give away clothes, maybe giving them to a foster care agency. We get babies that come with nothing, I had one baby came in the middle of the night in a dirty diaper. When babies leave they have to take everything that was purchased for them and we need to start from square one. Many foster parents would appreciate clothes donated.

I kept the clothes for a while but with twins, there are so many that I just didn't have space for them. In our town there is a consignment sale that is held twice a year. We put the prices on the clothes and at the end, they send a check. This one is just $50 to participate and you keep 100% of the amount you make from the clothes. I use this money to buy them more clothes. Of course, I save a few special things and I do have some friends with twins and save some things for them too.

I give clothes away - mostly to friends because I know so many people with babies. I've found people are really generous with us in sharing what their kids have outgrown so I don't think I need to worry about clothing the next baby if there is one. And I kind of like each of my kids to have their own clothes rather than older sibling hand me downs. I don't mind used clothes if they're from somebody else. I just don't want all my kids to be in the same outfits for all the pictures I take! I do have a "clothesline" up in each kid's room where I hang up outgrown outfits that are espicially cute or meaningful. It's a cute decoration and that limits how much I can keep for sentimental reasons.

I sort mine out for sure. The ones that have special memories, I keep. In fact, with my son, I couldn't give many away so have most of his 0-5 y/o clothes still, he he. I have sorted through them once now when the San Diego fires happened this past year and sent off a big box. With my littlest one, I'm still keeping things from special events, photos, or ones I just adored; I kept very little from my oldest and wish I'd kept more now for her children later.
Then, the ones that are new, I either keep for special presents or sell on ebay. The ones that are used and I can share, I save for the right person, often a family in need. It means a lot to me to know that clothes I loved for my children are again loved by a family who can't afford to buy them. susan

I kept a few of the baby things that hold sentimental value.
Clothes that my boys outgrew and I don't want to keep get donated to a shelter for Darfur refugees, or the child welfare organization here in Israel. I just cleaned out the kids' clothes and had about 12 bags of clothes. I'm almost embarrassed how much they have. What can I do though - I love to see my boys dressed nicely. |

I held onto mine, and it totally worked out - our boys are exactly two years apart, so JD could wear all of AJ's clothes.
We kept a few things after the kids grew out of them...The rest we separated into things to donate and things for friends, depending on condition and overall cuteness - lol. Do you have mom to mom sales in your area? I volunteered at one for my kids school/church, and the women CLEANED UP!!!! They made tons of money on the stuff they sold! |

I've been storing DS's outgrown clothes for a planned second adoption. After that, I will give them to charity - either a foster care agency as someone suggested or we have 2 agencies/shelters that serve women & children (victims of domestic abuse, etc.) in our town and they will go there.
FYI, that is what I have done as he has outgrown diapers and I have 15-20 of the smaller size left, they go to the women's shelter. |

Quilt it
I'm hoping to learn how to quilt (MIL knows so if nothing else, maybe she'll do it for me!) and I've always thought it would be cute to use pieces from blankets, favorite outfits, bibs, etc. in a quilt. Obviously it would be a waste to do this with EVERYTHING, but that way you could hang onto some for sentimental reasons. I would love to donate the rest to charity - foster care or a homeless shelter sounds wonderful to me! I'm going to have such a hard time parting with stuff though!

I share them with friends whose girls are a bit younger than mine. It's sad to see them go sometimes though!!!
