The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of child abductions and molestations etc are done by someone the child knows and trusts. Not random people who happen to look at a myspace page and see a picture of a baby that may or may not live with the owner of the myspace page. The odds of someone looking at a myspace page and trying to figure out who the child is and track them down is really really remote. We should all be more worried about the preschool teacher, the basketball coach, and the church pastor (just examples). I think myspace gets a bad rap from the men who solicit the friendship of minors....which as a previous poster mentioned is a matter of EDUCATING your children, especially if they are old enough to have their own myspace page. Taking your child to the park is likely riskier than an anonymous picture on a myspace page. .........too much lifetime television drama.

Off topic somewhat here, but as a preschool teacher I require parents to sign a form indicating that I can use their children's photos for private use (in weekly reports, portfolios, and our private blog) or public use (advertising & posting on the internet). I noticed the other day that one of my family's has used a photo from our private blog on their blog (which is public), so next year I am going to have a policy on that. I do NOT use any of the children's names with their photos, and would not post the photos online without their permission. I don't do MySpace, but do have a Facebook account, I have posted pictures of my classroom & general photos of me with the kids, but intentionally select photos that do not show their faces.

Maybe it seems weird, but even if the pedophiles aren't abducting my baby, I don't want them using the adorable pictures I have of Ty in the tub for...whatever they might use pictures for...KWIM? I guess I would never know, but um, no...not my kid.

We have to sign a release every year for at my boys' school... And to go back to what was mentioned many posts back, our agency had us sign a form stating that we weren't allowed to publish, email, etc. any pics of the baby until we went to court the first time (about a month after TPR was signed). From my standpoint, I don't like any pics of my kids online, really...I do know AJ's firstmom has pics of him on myspace, but hers is a private page... |
