Bottle warmers

I've been searching the stores and the internet trying to find a bottle warmer that warms the bottles evenly and quickly. I've been to several stores and sites that have feedback from parents that say they are not happy because the warmer either doesn't warm evenly, gets the milk too hot, or does not have an automatic shut off. It's been 13 years since I've had a little one, so I know products have changed. Can anyone help on a bottle warmer that they were happy with. If we are not permitted to use brand names, please PM me. Thanks.

I had a therapist reccomend this to me: buy a small crock pot and fill it with water. Keep it on low all day. Stick the bottle in. You have to play around to see how long it takes and set a timer because it won't stop warming. But, once you swish the bottle around it is evenly warm and works fast! She said she had seen every warmer and this option was better! It worked for me while I was doing daycare.

We have the Avent bottle warmer, and I have to say, we are not very happy with it. The milk is either piping hot if we use the recommended setting, or not warm enough if we use a lower setting. With a crying baby waiting for her grub, it can be a little frustrating..

Never warmed the bottles - both my boys took their bottles at room temperature. I used bottled water that I just opened and mixed the forumula with and then they ate

I've found that mixing formula at feeding time is less of a pain than having to warm bottles.

Mix using electric kettle

The kettle both sterilizes the water which you can use all day (boils full kettle in about a minute -must remember to keep top on it ) and re warms for your bottle in 5 or ten seconds depending on how full it is. It will give you the perfect (safe) degree of warmth which you can see and feel through the glass! The other great thing about glass is it cools again quickly after boiling (under 1/2 hour). The kettles are not expensive and you can use them forever for Tea etc...even for quicker pasta or hot cereal.

Saves us so much money and time. We can make a ready to drink warm bottle in under a minute (that includes assembling a Dr. Browns)

The other good thing is I can fill two or more additional bottles with warm water, throw them in the thermal pouch and bring formula on the go. Then he has warm bottles for the rest of the day.

All warmers stink or at least don't work nearly as well (or safely) as this.

We only really warm the bottles now at 8 months on cold mornings or if he's feeling icky. He can take it at any temp which is also a good thing. If you are interested PM me and I'll give you the brand we use. It's awesome.

H took his cold or at room temp. Pediatrician told me there was no medical or bonding reason to warm them.

We don't all have that option though. My son has to be on ready to feed, which has to be kept refrigerated. That stuff is cold! I usually have a couple minutes of an unhappy baby while his bottle warms up, and even then it's not usually warm enough. Maybe we'll have to try the crockpot idea.

Babies who breast feed first often want heated bottles when/if they transition to formula because they're used to milk at body temperature! But if your baby isn't going to breast feed (or only for a short time) you may not need a bottle warmer at all. We didn't have our daughter from infancy, but we know from her wonderful foster mom that she always took her bottles at room temperature, or even cold. Of course it all depends on the kid . . .

With my niece and nephew, my sister in law taught me to mocrowave a coffee cup of water, and put the bottle in the warm water after taking the cup out. Of ,course you have to shake the bottle and wipe it off. It worked wonderfully, and was quick.

I never warmed the bottles; maybe because I hate warm milk myself, unless is hot chocolate.

I used room temperature water or cold water to mix the formula right when they started to ask (get fussy) for it.

Sometimes I would fill the bottles with water at night and tuck it in with me at night, and had a premeasured little container of the formula ready to pour.

Other times I also made them the night before and kept them in the fridge, and gave to them straight out of the fridge -- And when I was really lazy to get up, I would put them in a little ice chest in their room.

Daycare would warm them up for them, so as long as they were hungry, they would go to town with the milk.

I have a friend who has five kids (all grown up now), but she would tell me how she wished we had been friends when her kids were little and learned my method. Apparently all her kids were really fussy as to the exact temperature of their bottles.

For about 3 mos we used an Avent bottle warmer and were happy with it, actually. Our dd was really tiny when she was born and we warmed her bottles until she got to 7-8 pounds. After that, we transitioned her to room temperature bottles and just mixed them one at a time with dry formula. Liked the bottle warmer and our dd transitioned easily. susan

I don't have product suggestions for you, but I wanted to say that it is not really necessary to warm bottles. This is one of those many things that was considered a "must do" at one time but not anymore.

My son always got his formula either straight from the tap (warm water to dissolve the milk) or from a prepared batch straight from the fridge without warming.

If you want to take the chill off you can run the bottle under warm water.

My sister always used bottled water room temperature to mix with formula. She would pack the powder and water and mix when needed -- no need to refridgerate.

Crock Pot

That is a really great idea. What about when he's on milk out of the fridge? How do most people get the chill off the milk? Or do you just give it cold? Cause I'm thinking the crock pot idea is good for cold milk, no?

Warming bottles

Honestly, it's one of those things that does a lot more for the parents than the babies! We're the ones that think it's horrible to have a cold bottle!

Don't forget that the baby is holding the nipple in his/her (warm!) mouth while they're drinking.

Unless they're very tiny, or for some reason are having trouble maintaining their own body temperature or for some other reason, don't worry about it a whole lot.
