Who can recommend a really good car seat?

After Cameron's 2nd stage open heart surgery, he gets to be in a normal, regular car seat!!! This is a big deal because he has been in a car bed since we brought him home, due to the risk of his airway being occluded, as his upper body is weak. But, my little guy is getting stronger, and his next surgery will be so good for his health overall.

I'm thinking of getting the Britax Marathon. I've heard such great things about it safety-wise, which is of course most important. I know I don't want an infant seat. Are there other car seats I should be considering? Anyone have recommendations for me? Seats you love, seats you hate?

I love the Britax Marathon! I don't know where you are, but our store would let me try it on my girls, and would also let me take it to the car to see if they would fit.

I envy my girls when I'm driving, and look back, and they are fast asleep in their comfortable seats. It gives me peace of mind to know that they are safe.

Thanks!

Good~I'm glad to hear such good things about it! It looks so big though. My son is only 11 pounds.

Unfortunately, due to my son's heart defect and his health, I can't take him to public places. The risk is just too great. I won't be able to try him in the car seat till we leave after his next surgery. He's literally only been to see his docs, otherwise we hang out at home.

It is big, cause I believe it goes up to 60lbs, I don't remember correctly. One of my daughters has the Marathon, the other has the Roundabout, which goes up to 40 lbs, I think.

Do you currently have an infant carrier, I only ask because when my daughters were little I hated waking them up to put them in the stroller, I just took them in the infant carrier in a snap & go.

Maxi Cosi Priori is cool because it has 4 recline modes and can be either front or rear facing. Maxi Cosi is the highest rated car seat in Europe and their safety standards exceed ours.

I've been waiting for the Orbit's toddler seat to come out but now it is delayed until the end of April. I can't squish Zara into the infant seat any longer. I believe the Priori goes from 5-40 pounds and is cheaper than the Britax.

Hope this helps!

We have two Britaxes, both Roundabouts because our children are small and by the time they get to 40 pounds, they really want a new car seat! We've been happy with the Roundabouts -- great variety of covers, too. The safety issues are well-defined and the company's track record is strong. susan

I love love love my Britax Marathon; I bought it when my ds was about 3.5yo b/c he had outgrown his Evenflo Triumph (also another favorite of my mine). So I haven't used the Marathon rear-facing yet as I'm still using an infant seat for my DD. I really hate the infant seat and I only bought it to keep her warm in freezing cold Ohio. I'm going to transfer her to the Marathon in May and I can't wait. The Marathon was so easy to use and very comfortable. My ds finally outgrew it when he was about 5 years old--he has a really tall torso. So, it will probably be the only carseat to you even need (ds does use a booster now).
My heart really goes out to you and all you and Cameron have been through. I don't post often but I have followed your story. I cannot imagine how scared you must be with his upcoming surgery and he'll be in my thoughts and prayers. When it is scheduled?

I have a Britax carseat for Hanna and "Brandon". I also have one that I bought for "Darlene" that I'm saving for my next placement. I love them and wouldn't use anything else.

THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR CHILD CAN DIE ON A CORDED WINDOW TREATMENT
Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.

I'm also a fan of Britax. We have 2 Roundabouts and 2 Marathons. When we go on long trips, our kids actually ask for them after they switch to boosters. They are so much better to sleep in than a booster. They were sad when they finally outgrew them.

That is a big step. So thrilled that Cameron is growing. I love my Britax Marathon. I used the infant seat and moved into the Marothon. Kelcee never complains in it. She gets many naps in it.

So glad to hear he is growing and getting stronger! We love our Britax Marathon and actually ordered one of them online. It is rated from 5-60 lbs and the straps are very easy to use. It'll be just fine for 11 lbs I love that is has a lot more cushioning and strap protectors on the shoulders vs. other brands. We ordered one of them online from Target and it was delivered without a problem. Good luck!

The Britax Marathon is a great seat! We have one The new ones now rear-face to 35 pounts, which is wonderful! It's safest to keep them rear-facing as long as possible. Then you can turn them around and they go to 65 pounds forward facing. They will last you until they are much older, hopefully old enough for a booster.

We have the Maxi Cosi and love it. The only complaint would be that the sunshade doesn't come down as far as we'd like. Otherwise, it's a great carseat.
