maybe ill join - if you'll have me. its not quite adoption #2 for me - does #4 count? i have 12 kids, but this is my 4th adoption. i feel calmer and less anxious this time. already having children means i wont be devastated if im not holding a new baby RIGHT NOW! remember that feeling?

Wow! There are a few of us waiting for #2 (or #4)! Great!
We started getting DS's (16.5 months) 'new' room ready this weekend. He is moving down the hall so the baby will beside our room when he/she arrives. We thought it best to do this move well before a new baby is in the picture for DS's sake. We moved the 'guest' room to the basement and set it up down there. Then put a single bed in DS's new room, bought shelves and wall boxes to put up, a bedding set (safari colors on one side and camo on the other) for the bed and we are on the hunt for a dresser. We have been telling DS that will be his new room so he started moving some of his stuffies in today! too cute! We hope to have it all set up by mid week, then we will move his crib, decorations and personal stuff in on Saturday and put him in. Hopefully we can then wait a couple week before we start putting any 'baby' stuff back in his old room. What is everyone else doing? Will your older ones stay in the same room? Doing some prep? or just deal with it whenit happens?

It's funny how things change after the first baby. With #1 we had the room decorated, set up and ready to go. Even the clothes were washed. I swore baby would not sleep in our room and my ds slept in his crib in his own room from day one. With #2 DS he was preemie and had to get up every 2 hours at first. Since he was a very quiet crier and I didn't want to wake up DS #1 he slept in a crib in our room for the first few months and then moved in with #1
Now, the boys share a room and I don't want to lose my office (bedroom #3), so the baby 's crib is set up in our room. The only reason it is even set up is because DS#1 just moved to his big boy bed and we didn't want to take the crib apart and put it in the basement only to set it up again in a few months. Baby #3 will be in our room as long as possible, since I'm really dreading moving my office down to the basement No decorations, no clothes washed, no bag packed.......Ahhhhh now I'm starting to scare myself ![]()

Well we moved since our DD came home. However she was in her crib for the first month or so in our new home. We had set up both the nursery and her Big girl room when we moved in... one day she just decided she wanted to sleep in there... and has ever since! It was such an easy transition I still can't believe it!
So now that we are waiting for number two, we already have the crib set up. However the room is not painted yet since we did move. Last time, it was the absolute FIRST thing we did. This time I am leaning towards seeing if we have a boy or girl before I paint! I would like to avoid a gender neutral thing this time! I may have DH put up the chair rail in advance... that way we will just have to throw some paint up! But I have to say everything else in the house is ready for the new baby! I even have my diaper bag all packed and ready to go! Bottles are in the cabinets... onsies are all washed.. I am READY! |

Hello
We found out that our homestudy update was put in the mail Friday so we should get it today or Tuesday!! We will get our profile this week and then I can mail applications and get started being shown to birthmom's!! So exciting!
We have not done much to the room, moved my computer to another room and some of Sami's toys are in the room right now. I will have to say the way I am feeling is a little more calm, we did International adoption the first time, long story short we were in adoption mode for almost 5 years with that so it was HARD! I think since I am a mom already it does not seem as bad but there are times when I do get to thinking or anxiety feelings about when to start doing something or what do I need to do for this adoption. I get overwhelmed sometimes with feelings of how to take care of a newborn since Sami was 14 months old when she came home. But all in all I feel like I am a little more calmer this time around. I don't really want to do a whole lot because of Sami, because if something happens I don't want the room ready and such. Is anyone out there an older Mom? I am 41 and getting a newborn is something that is a tad bit scarey to me being older-heehee. The thing that I worry about most is the sleep-I love my sleep :0 |

We finished Cameron's big boy room last week and we just moved his crib in there. (We decided to leave him in his crib as long as we can.) My sister is giving us a second crib that we will set up in the nursery when we get it. (Probably not for about a month.) I have the clothes all washed and in drawers, but do not have a bag packed. I probably won't until we get the call. As long as I have everything accessible, I can be packed in 10 minutes! I want it to happen fast, but I still have a few things to finish first: finish recovering from my surgery I had, get my taxes filed (that will pay for #2!!!), etc. But, I know it will happn when it is supposed to happen...

Question
Hi, when you ladies have time will you post here what you need to start out with baby. I have been reading Baby Bargains and What To Expect The First Year but i would love to hear from you all on what your suggestions are. We are on a budget so the basics are pretty much what we'll be getting to start with. What type diapers do you like and such? What do you have ready to put in your bag to take to the hospital? We are requesting a boy but if we get to waiting to long we can request no preference.
What type diaper bag do you like, what type baby carrier (sling) do you like, things like that. I feel like I am a first time Mom but I'm not, just a first time mom to a newborn ![]() |

We used Pampers Swaddlers and loved those. This time we are planning to cloth diaper (Fuzzi Bunz). I will use disposables until after ICPC. I will probably just buy either Huggies or Pampers when on sale to get us through the first couple weeks. (I have tried generic diapers on Cameron and they did not work at all.) I have a Hotslings sling that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!! I used it all the time for ICPC. We did not take a stroller and I was attachment parenting, so I wore him a lot! As far as what you need: car seat, diapers, wipes, formula (although some hospitals will give you several days worth of this stuff. Some don't so be prepared to buy it.) Bottles (don't buy too many because babe might not like that kind.) Clothes: gowns, onesies, burp rags, blankets. You really don't need as much as people say you do. You can use a dresser drawer as a bed. You can use hand me down clothes. Babies don't need swings or hoopla. They can live without it.

momtosami: congrats on being approved . . . that is so exciting. I agree that babies don't need tons of stuff, but I think some of it is for the parents as much as the baby. I especialy think the swing is important. Dd had colic and was happiest in there (sometimes), I know someone else who couldn't get baby to sleep with a bottle or rocking, but the swing seemed to do it. I think necessity depends on the baby and what his/her requirements are. I also think necessity is also dependant upon what makes mom happy and what makes her life easier. I wouldn't live without a swing, and other things that help occupy or entertain while you get a few things done with two hands. Your babe may not like the swing. I would consider borrowing some of these things from friends/family if you can. If baby loves one thing or another then maybe invest in your own. We have no nieces or nephews or friends with kids, so we have invested in a lot of things that dd didn't really like. Good side is most of them are boxed and new, maybe baby #2 will enjoy some of those things. As far as a comprehensive list goes, here is a link to another thread with some suggestions on things you might need: Question on things
As far as planning . . . everyone better get to it. You never know when it is going to happen. We were chosen the day we turned in our profile. I did NOT expect that at all. We were expecting a 12-18 month wait. Honestly I am not sure I am ready for this. Same emotions as all of you. Relieved if this match works out so we don't have to go through this process ever again! But shocked and unready for how quick it happened. I was kind of counting on a little more time for just me and dd#1. Things have a way of working themselves out though, so if it is meant to be, it will happen at the right time. We have ordered a new bedroom set for dd to move her into ASAP - I don't want her to think it is associated with the arrival of dd #2. It is supposed to be here next week some time. Our pbmom is due the middle of Feb, so I hope the bedroom set beats the baby here .saya: As far as talking to dd about the second adoption, we have been open and honest. I have explained that there are no guarantees and we certainly haven't created an advent calendar to count down to pbmom due date. I want her to know that things will change and what expectations I have of her. I don't think they have a good grasp of time, so maybe just letting them know a new baby brother or sister may join the family at soem time is enough. Dd has met pbmom, so she knows what is going on, kind of. She rubbed her belly and asked her to open it so she could see her sister. (That meeting scares me because I don't want dd to get hurt). Today she asked about her baby sister, and I told her to remember that it wasn't for sure. She responded by saying, "It's okay mommy, if my baby sister doesn't come and live with us, then we can just love each other." I of course responded that I would always love her, no matter what. I can't believe how intuitive a chid can be who isn't even three yet. She kind of has an old soul and seems to understand the world around her more than I ever thought possible. Her comments surrounding the situation have been so heart felt, smart and intuitive . . . she suprises me all the time. Hope everyone is doing well and your waits are surprisingly short.

Marci-
Who are you adopting through this time? I believe a few months back you were considering using the same agency we are? (Hint: the Ohio Agency you adopted your son through That would be cool if we are both waiting for babies from the same agency at the same time!

This week I was reminded about how quickly things can change
No baby, but I spent 2 days in the hospital with my 2 year old for pneumonia. We just got home and he is doing well. The whole time I was there I kept thinking about getting "the call." Luckily, I was also reminded what great friends and family we have to help us out. Our sitter happily jumped in and took our other baby overnight at a moments notice, then grandma and grandpa stepped in and took him after that. One of my wonderful co-workers stepped in and worked for me on Tuesday as well. It was so nice to know I didn't have to worry about anything but taking care of PJ. Glad to be home and back to waiting.... ![]()

Oh man, there are a lot of us second timers, huh??
I will be the first to say, the wait this time is WAY way, way, way harder than the first time. (did I say it it harder this time?? It is.) Maybe it is because it has been longer (4 months w/ #1 and going on 10 months this time) or because we have had several disappointments and a disruption this time (none the first time)..... BUT..... We are matched and find out tomorrow if the delivery will be Monday or Tuesday!! Scary, she is feeling very emotional right now, but still knows she wants to place with us... Still scary as H*LL this time.... Oh, and we have been told boy for 2 months and found out today it is a GIRL!! Holy cow!!! (1st is a girl too).... WIshing you all short waits, and good health... Mega
