OT-Twins Questions
My twins are 8 months old. They were born at 28 weeks so their corrected age is 5 months. One of them started sitting up by himself this week. The other one is trying but just not there yet. He always seems to do thing about 3 weeks after his brother does. It really hasn't been that noticeable until it came to the sitting up. For some reason it just kills me to see one of them sitting up and playing and the other one laying on his back. I know kids all develop at different rates but you would think twins would be more in sync. For all of you with twins...what have been your experiences.
The other weird thing is, the one who can sit by himself is about a pound lighter and an inch and 1/2 shorter. Weird.... |

I am a twin myself and my twin sat up, crawled, and walked long before I did. It is nothing to worry about. Even though they are twins they are two different, individual babies. Enjoy!

My twins did everything on their own schedule. One crawled at six months, the other didn't crawl until nine months, but then the second one walked one month before the first! Don't worry about it. They are their own little people. They will do things on their own time.

My girls have always been about a week or two apart on things. The younger twin, interestingly enough, actually crawled and walked first - with the older one following, like I said, a week or so later. They started losing their teeth this summer. Younger twin lost her first two teeth before older twin lost her first one - she trailed a couple of months on that one!
Just goes to show they're not identical in EVERYTHING!!!

my DD"s were born an 28 weeks. Twin A (L)was born 2lbs 15oz, Twin B was 2lbs 5oz. Twin A did everything (except walk) first by about 3-4 weeks. She usually just did it by 'accident'. Twin B (M) REALLY REALLY wanted to walk (at 15 months), and she did that first by about 2 weeks due to sheer calculated determination.
They are different in every way. I never once peeked at a baby book to see what they should be achieving. Heck, I was so thankful they were alive and healthy that I figured that as long as they met their milestones in their adjusted age range, we were doing fabulously. If I remember correctly, L sat up all alone at about 8 months, began talking at 9 months and was crawling at 11 months. She walked at 15.5 months. M sat up at 9 months, crawled at 11.5 months and walked at 15 months. She started talking a few words at about 18-20 months but would rather swing from the chandelier and perch precariously on chairs and counter tops. As we have recently discovered, M *can* phrase together short sentences, but her sister usually speaks for her.....we're working on that ![]() |

My brothers are twins and one always "led" the other. Sometimes it was the younger, sometimes the older. They sat up, walked, talked, etc. at different times. In fact, the older one walked once, fell and hurt himself and didn't walk again for three months. By then the younger one was doing laps around the couch!
There are a lot of things twins will always do together, but they're still individuals who have to learn and grow at their own pace. |

My twins are a year old and the older one generally does things first and he is the smaller, lighter of the two. Although, there are some things that the younger one does first. They are each individuals born at the same time. I know it is not hard to compare but as long as they are reaching their milestones, I am sure they are fine.
Aren't twins fun?!?! |

Thanks for all your replies....
Yes, twins are a blast...although, I did tell my boys this morning that when God decided to make twins, he should have given all the mommies the option to have 2 more hands. LOL |
