Tell us about when you received "The Call".
I just can't even imagine what it feels like or how I will react when the time comes for us. So tell me...
What was it like? Where were you? What did you say? Did you tell anyone else right away? Did you do anything special? And anything else you'd like to add. Lookin forward to reading your stories.

#1: I was out of town for my grandmother's funeral. I had checked into a motel near the airport since I had an early flight home the next morning. I called my husband to let him know where I was and so forth. He then told me that the agency had called the night before to let him know we had be chosen by our ds's bmom and not to tell me until I got home. We had a meeting with the bmom the next evening. I was stunned and had no reaction at first. I had been waiting for so long to get that call and then I was stunned. I sat in my motel room and didn't know what to do. I was emotionally raw anyway because I was so close to my grandmother. The baby was born 3 weeks later...2 days after my grandmother's bday. So to say that I hit the ground running for the next 3 weeks was an understatement. We didn't tell anyone back home until we were in the hospital waiting on the birth.
#2: I had been given hints from my SW that there was a placement around the corner. I think when she said she wanted to come out to our new house a week after we moved in for an update report was my first clue. Then she called a week later on April 1st..."This is not an April Fool's joke...come pick up your little girl next Thursday!" I tried calling my dh but he didn't answer his phone...I then called my mother and when she answered the phone I started bawling!! After I could control myself and reassure her that nothing bad had happened I told her we were getting our little girl the next week. I then started calling everyone I knew. This was an agency placement...TPR done and so forth. Our dd was 13 weeks old when we got her. 3 days before Easter...so we told everyone the Easter Bunny brought her!! I was standing in line to get lunch. I had been waiting for about 20 minutes already when my cell phone rang. I answered it and found out we had been chosen. I had to get out of line (and boy I was I hungry LOL) and get info to call our bmom. I was so scared I was shaking. I was also excited and nervous. I couldn't wait to call my husband and give him the news.

I was at work. I called the social worker to give her my new telephone number. She said "Can you come in on Thursday?". I said "Should I be excited?". She said "Yeah, you can be excited". I was floored. I had been waiting for the call for 5 months. I said "Is he a boy?". She said "You have to wait until Thursday. I can't give info over the phone". This was a Tuesday afternoon. I was never so excited in all my life!! Thursday, I met with the social worker and she said "She was born on 9/17. YES, SHE'S A GIRL!". I was so incredibly happy. I was told he would be a boy. I had to wait for ICPC before I could take her home but I was allowed to visit. When I wasn't visiting, I was at the mall buying every pink outfit I could get my hands on. With my little Hanna, I had been talking with the social worker over the course of a week regarding a possible match. The social worker told me her supervisor was going to make a decision a week from Monday (this was a Thursday) because she was going on vacation. I couldn't believe I had to wait that long for a yes or no. About an hour later, the social worker called me and said "Supervisor said you seem like a good match. She's yours!". Again, I had to wait for ICPC but it only took 5 days. I was able to get her in about 9 days.

Ours wasn't actually a call, but a face-to-face. It's fun to remember, so I'll share anyway.
We had already been in email contact and had one face-to-face meeting with dd's birth mom. At her request, we met again (at a restaurant) one week after our first meeting. About halfway through dinner, she said that she wanted us to be her child's parents. I got all teary eyed and think I floated for the rest of the evening! DD was born 5 weeks later. ![]()

Ours was out of the blue. We'd never heard from DD's bparents before.
DH and I were getting ready to take his little sister shopping one Sunday morning when the phone rang. DH picked it up and it was DD's bgrandma. She said that she'd found our profile online and thought we would be great parents. (DD had been born the night before). If we were interested would we please come to the hospital? DH walked into the bathroom where I was taking a shower and asked if I'd like to go get our daughter instead! After he convinced me he wasn't joking I nearly flooded the place I was in such a hurry. A whirlwind 48 hours later we were home with our precious girl! |

Mine is a little different since I adopted internationally. My call came at 3:39 am. That is not the norm for internationally at all. The phone rang at 3:39 am and I tried to wake up as I was looking at the glow of the caller ID. I use to have a job where I got calls at all times during the night but I still hate getting woken up during the night. I live on the east coast but my agency was on the west coast so my coordinator had forgotten that there was a huge time difference but she was so excited that she had just gotten off the phone with Ethiopia. All she knew was gender and DOB so that is all I got during that phone call. I had to wait about 36 hours before I got pictures and more information on her.
On my way to work I called my dad on his cell to let him know. He answered, I asked if he was driving, he said yes, I told him not to crash but he was a grandpa. There was a pause and he said -- who is this. I said Samantha. He said he didn't know a Samantha. It turns out my dad had recently changed his cell phone number and had neglected to tell me so I was talking to a complete stranger and didn't even realize it. Samantha

#1 I had finally decided to do my nursery. My sil was staying with us that summer to paint precious moments like characters on our wall in the nursery. I got a call saying someone wanted to meet us but was probably leaning toward a different family. We went and met with her on a Friday, we were called on Monday and told she had chosen us. He was born 6 weeks later (even though he was supposedly due 2 weeks later).
#2, I was at home. I got a call saying someone was interested but she didn't want to meet. She was looking at more than one family and had some questions. I answered the questions and was told they'd call me back later on. This was the Friday before Labor Day. I didn't hear back so i assumed she'd either chosen to parent or chose someone else. The Tuesday after labor day the sw called and said, "She chose you, and he was born yesterday, do you want to adopt him?" I screamed (yes, I literally screamed), "YES WE WANT HIM!" Then I called dh and got his voice mail so I left a message. I was bawling so hard he thought something bad had happened and he couldn't tell it was good news at first. Then I called my Mom and she thought something bad had happened too. When I finally got her to realize it, she screamed too and everyone that works with her stopped what they were doing and said a prayers (Christain based place). Then I called other people, too. We got to see him and pick him up when he was 4 days old. |

Ahhhh....the memories
That's a phone call I will NEVER forget. My mother in law, who was acquainted with friends of the birth family, called and left us a VERY long message. It said that she knew of a beautiful 8 mo boy who needed an adoptive home, and a lot of details. The last thing she said was, "Are you interested?"
I looked over at my hubby and he handed me the phone. Not a word said between us! 40 days later, we brought that baby home. Oh, and the other call was from our attorney, who called us exactly two weeks after the first call and said, "I think you better go buy some baby furniture!" The bst part of that call was that now I could TELL people. I thought I was going to explode for those 2 weeks...LOL. Robin |

LOL! I forgot to mention it but my Mom did the same thing! All I said was "mom" and her immediate reaction was what's wrong? I forgot to answer the other part of the question. We only told our parents until we left the hospital that night knowing DD was ours. Then we called EVERYONE at 11 p.m.! |

getting "the call"
On tues Dec 7 i finished my exams for my degree and went out for a late dinner with DH and in-laws to celebrate. We had been told the ave wait was 6-18 months for a call, it had been two. We had joked from the beginning how perfect it would be to get the call right after I finished exams...
Early wed morning I got up and took the dogs on a long walk, exhausted from school. When I got back there's a mssg from DH to call him at work, immediately. I did and he told me they had a baby for us. I thought it was a heartless joke at first (what are the odds?!?!) and almost hung up till he said call the agency. That was wed morning. We were told to be in GA (from WI) by friday morning if we were interested in her. IF?!?!?!?! Was a high risk placement, but with timing like that we decided it had to be "the one" so we went to GA and had our beyooootiful girl friday morning. There were numerous "coincidences" all along our trip, things working out perfectly that we finally decided they were encouragement from God to "go get our Girl!!" The rest of that story is that we had NO issues anywhere along the way, have some contact with BirthMom, and couldn't have written a better script for ourselves!
