Ok! I think I've given enough time for the book to be read (by the true die-hards anyway)
Now let's start TALKING about it!!! I freakin LOVED this book. BY FAR the best one in the entire series. I won't lie...I did shed a tear when Harry was going into the forest with his dead family/friends supporting him to face his death.... and SNAPE!! I KNEW IT!!! I JUST KNEW HE COULDN"T BE BAD!!! I had NO idea about the why tho - the friendship with lilly was quite the new twist!!! The battle at hogwarts had me GRIPPED to the book...I got so excited - and sad - and happy - ALL AT ONCE. Personally, i LOVED the epilogue - especially since JK was on the today show and explained things a little further. My girlfriend said she thought it was kind of cheesey... What do y'all think???? |

Okay so I want to know...does he die? I don't read the books...let alone see the movies, but I want to know.

Oh yay, finally I can talk to people about it!!
I felt a little like I was grinding through the middle of the book while they were camping in that tent- but I loved the conclusion, and I felt so sorry for Snape at the end. He had a pretty horrible life. |

I guess it's because I'm such an animal lover too that I was upset she killed off Hedwig.
By the end of that novel I really felt like someone had died. I'm most likely going to have to re-read the entire series to feel better ![]() |

I liked it a lot, but the middle drove me absolutely nuts with the hiding and waiting game Harry, Ron & Hermione played for soooooo long! lol!
I knew Harry had to be a horcrux but didn't know how it would all work out, and I thought she did a great job with that detail of how he does die but then comes back. I also felt that Snape and Dumby had some sort of arrangement to make sure Snape killed him, but again...the way it all happened, no clue and it was great!! And I know this is morbid...but I really thought she would kill off more of a main character. I was truly expecting Mr. Weasley or Hagrid to die. I knew she wouldn't kill off Ron or Hermione because the whole series was about Harry finally getting that love and friends and if she had killed off his two main ones after already killing his parents & Sirius, I just didn't see how Harry could handle it. Overall I really enjoyed it and while I do think the epilogue was a bit cheesey, I'm glad she had one. If she had just ended the series without any epilogue at all, I'd have been soooo mad!! LOL! Does anyone think that Albus Severus, Harry's son, will be the next series she writes? I see something there...with the whole Slytherin element and his name....A.S.P.......oooohhhhh! ![]()

I told my dh a while ago Harry was a horcrux too. I think it would have made more sense if Harry did die, more poignant but after all he went through in his short life it was nice that he finally got to have some happiness. The middle of the book drove me nuts too. Seemed like nothing happened for so long... but I also finished it in a day and a half so it had to be pretty good. I wanted an epilogue but I also think she needed to take more time with it. I was surprised Hermione wasn't an Auror as well. I had a feeling Snape was not really working with Voldemort, and I didn't want him to be. But, in book 6 when Harry attacks him he didn't really do anything but run away... and if he was working for Voldemort and disliked Harry so much that would've been the perfect opportunity to attack him. |

Crick - On the today show, JK said she intended to kill off mr. weasley in by the fifth book - but just didn't have the heart to do it.
She is currently putting together a Harry Potter Encyclopedia type book - sort of getting all the details out about all the characters. She said she had to leave alot of their stories out of the books - otherwise they'd just go on forever. |

My brother and I were talking about this the other day, and we still couldn't figure it out, so we're both going to reread to see how this happened -- why was Draco the rightful owner of the Elder Wand. Granted he was entrusted with trying to kill Dumbledore, but he didn't, he didn't even beat Dumbledore in a duel or anything, so how did he end up being the owner of the wand?

Anneo - in the HBP book, Draco disarms Dumbledore when Dumby & Harry land on the tower at Hogwarts when the school is invaded by the death eaters.
So by disarming him, Draco becomes the owner of the wand, eventhough he never actually took the actual wand. The way I understood it was that The Elder Wand is so dang smart it knew Draco had disarmed Dumbledore without Draco touching it and then when Harry disarms Draco of his own wand, The Elder Genius Wand then belonged to Harry, since it's the action of disarment that determines the "true owner" and not who actually holds the Elder Wand.

I think more of the info will be in her interview on Dateline tonight. I think at 7 in CA.
I thought it was okay. Little confused about the sword showing up to kill the snake, but afriend explained that to me. I think I would have liked the more detailed epilogue she mentioned onthe Today show that she cut out. I felt like it really left a lot hanging and didn't really finish it for me for some reason. Don't get me wrong. I liked the book. I didn't think it was greta because it did drag out and then once you hit 600 or so it was like all this stuff just jammed in together!! |

I think the worst death for me was Dobby. I mean, Fred was bad and trading Lupin for Mr. Weasley and then having Tonks die so that Teddy ended up like Harry (who now happens to be Teddy's godfather in a nice bit of irony), also stunk. Don't get me wrong. But really, Dobby dying was just HARSH.
Of course, to each their own. My friend was most upset about Hedwig. I also wanted to see Umbridhe suffer a little more. Just me? I would've loved to see her at the battle of Hogwarts being run down by Firenze or something. Really though, the book was fantasitc. It did get frustrating while they were traveling but I kind of think Rowling wanted it to be that way. I've heard a lot of people complain about how cheesey the epilogue was. But I think I'd be hearing even more complaining if she hadn't done it. Can't wait for the encyclopedia! |

Oh, I picked up on the possibility of "Harry Potter, The Next Generation" right away...LOL. Not only are James and Albus Potter and Rosie Weasley headed off to Hogwarts (with Lily and Hugo to follow in 2 years), but so is Draco Malfoy's son. And that stone was dropped in the Forbidden Forest AND there's the matter of the hidden Elder Wand. I smell a sequel. Robin |

Well....Jk said that she did not do the epilogue to continue things - she did it to finish it and show that Harry now has peace.
I for one can't WAIT to see what she writes about next. It must be hard tho...how do you follow up the Harry Potter series??? |

As much as it pains me to say this, I think she might do best by going a completely different direction.
Because everyone's going to expect another Harry and you just can't do that again. |
