Adoption Agencies

I live in New York which has few licensed adoption agencies. The agency that I would like to use is not licensed in NY. Has anyone ever used two agencies. An out of state agency to locate and place a child for adoption and a licensed NY agency to handle the legal end.

Thanks

We are using an out-of-state agency, but we have to use an agency here to do our homestudy and post-placement visits. We will finalize in the state where our child is placed and so we will only need attorneys there.

It is not that uncommon to choose an out-of-state agency. It gets a little tricky though when you are in one state, the agency is in another, and the bmother is in another.

We used 3 agencies for our second son's adoption. It was a little crazy! But it all worked out in the end. We are just waiting now for a date from the court to finalize.

No, I am KY, but I could not find an agency here to meet our adoption needs so we are using an agency in Ohio.

You may also look into using referral services. This is where you submit an application listing what you are open to as far as race, special needs, cost, etc. When a situation comes to the referral service meeting the criteria you have listed, they contact you and hook you up with the agency or lawyer presenting the case. If you are interested in this option, just pm me and I can respond with the names of a few.
