Making CD/DVD

I have been trying to make a CD/DVD of pictures with background music. Has anyone done this before? I'm trying to use MusicMaker which is already in my computer and totally get how you can add photos to it but am reaching the point I would like to have background music and can't figure it out!
I'm at a total loss as to how to download music from another source and is there a good source? I would only want about 5 songs or so and don't want any memberships. I don't have an ipod and have not done this before.
How about making a movie with video clips from their video camera???? Now that sounds complicated, thought I would start simple with just photos but eek it is harder than I thought.

Thanks!

I used onetruemedia.com.

They have many songs to choose from or you can add your own.

I just did this this past weekend. I used Windows Movie Maker. I had the music from iTunes, but you have to have a membership and it costs $.99 a song. This is a legal way to download music. Once you have the song, you import it into the program and then you drag it down to the timeline below the pictures. PM me if you have more questions as these were pretty vague instructions!

Mumofone and Court thanks!
Court, did you make a DVD of pictures or videos? I also have short clips of video from my digital camera. It seems so complicated to do the video part.

Thanks!

I did pictures, but I've done a video in the past. I don't remember off the top of my head how I did it though. Have you tried dragging the video clip down to the timeline just like the pictures?

I used Microsoft Photo story to make a dvd slide show of my sons 1st year pictures. It's free to download & easy to use. It lets you add songs too.

I did one last night for a Father's Day gift using Roxio. I had a mini-movie with music of each of the kids and one with pictures with all of the kids together on the DVD. It was pretty easy.

(I couldn't wait until Father's Day, though -- he got the gift last night! )

Windows Movie Maker is REALLY easy to use and comes out really nice, but I don't think it will burn to DVD -- only a CD. I like using that, too.

I use Windows Movie Maker also and works great...I used lots of songs and had them fade in and out on the parts I wanted (I made one for my mom & dad with all of our baby pictures to current and in between some pictures I put quotes about family, etc)...
It's REALLY easy...
