Tennessee ICPC?
My hubby and I have just started a major classified ad "campaign" in Tennessee? Has any one ever adopted a newborn sucessfully from Tn? How long did it take for ICPC to go through so you could go back to your state?
Appreciate your help and info. Thanks |

Our son was born in TN. He is my first cousin's birth child. We left the state before the ten day waiting period was over, but I knew on of the local CASA child advocates that wrote a letter for us to be able to do this. As far as I know after the ten day waiting period after TPR is signed, you are free to go.We obtained legal custody of him at the same hearing for TPR. Let me know if I can answer any other questions

We live in TN and adopted a newborn from here. As far as I know you can leave the state as soon as the baby is 15 days old.

We live in Georgia and adopted a newborn from Tennessee (we used a large national facilitator). TPR has to be signed in court once bmom and baby are released from the hospital and then your 10 day revocation period starts. ICPC can't be filed until TPR is signed. In our case our daughter was born on a Thursday night, released from hospital Saturday, we went to court the next Tuesday and went home Friday. All total from her birth it was only about a week until we could go home, but only about 4 days for ICPC to be completed. Remember one thing as well: ICPC clearance depends on BOTH states. In our case GA messed something up that our TN attorney caught and got fixed for us. If this had not been fixed we would have left the following Monday or Tuesday. ICPC can only be completed on a business day. Good luck!

We did in 2005. It took over 3 weeks to get back home to AL. One of the reasons it took longer than we expected is b/c K's bmom couldn't get into court to TPR b/c she had to spend a few more days in the hospital.
