Update on our adoption

A lot has happened since I last updated you all! It's been a busy few months!

Ok, so our file is in committee with K's file. Hopefully the committee will say yes and we can proceed with her coming into our home.

Our thinking is that she'll visit on weekends until school is out (May 25) and then she'll be in our house full time. We don't want to mess up her schooling especially since she's so close to graduation (December is when her expected graduation is).

Her social worker gave us her email address & we've exchanged lots of emails. That's been a great thing! She gave us her phone number (she's in a group home), so we've actually talked twice, too. Last night we talked for about 30 minutes. It was too fun & I think we both could have gone on a lot longer if she hadn't needed to go to do chores before taking a shower.

We get to go officially meet her tomorrow (Wednesday). John (dh) met her in February when he did a resume workshop in her area of the state, but that was very unofficial. We're going to go to the group home, meet with her social worker (who we haven't met in person before, but have had many conversations with), and then when K comes home from school, we'll meet her, too! We'll spend some time together & then go out to dinner together. I'm SO excited!

We have our spring break next week and the judge and her social worker's supervisor both signed off on her spending spring break with us (it helps that we're a licensed foster home, so they don't have to do quite as much on the front end to make these things happen). Her school's spring break was last month, but we're requesting an excused absence (really only 4 days b/c they're out next Friday anyway) so that she can be with us. We'll help her with her assignments and such so she won't be behind.

The judge was so excited for her and was thrilled that a family is interested in adopting her.

So...that's the story! We get to see her tomorrow & it looks like next week is a "go", too. WOOHOO!

Oh, her social worker also found in the law books that she should be eligible for adoption until she's 19. She's still waiting for confirmation from the Legal Dept, but it's looking good. She turns 18 in July, so the time was TIGHT before she found that tidbit.

God bless,
Stacie

THERE ARE EIGHT DIFFERENT WAYS YOUR CHILD CAN DIE ON A CORDED WINDOW TREATMENT
Read "How Safe Cords Kill" at www.pfwbs.org

THREE CHILDREN HAVE STRANGLED TO DEATH SINCE ANGEL DIED ON 8/11/09.
Brandyn Coppedge died on 9/11/09. Rosie Smith died on 9/30/09 and Thapelo Kwofie died on 11/1/09. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is no longer recommending safety kits. They are now recommending that anywhere children live or visit should be free of corded window products.
