Utah experiences?
Hello all
It's been awhile since I've posted; it took some time to get over our failed match. However, we're having a conference call tomorrow night with a potential birth mom. Can anyone give me insight on adoption law in Utah? I've read some things, but nothing is clear. If you've adopted from Utah, any advice/input is welcome! Pm me if you'd feel more comfortable.![]() |

We adopted in Utah 17 months ago. We liked it. Relinquishments are irrevocable and can be signed I think 24 hours after birth. There is also a birthfather registry. We were able to finalize in 6 months and court was great. We did have to travel back to Utah to finalization. We could have finalized in CA but it was easier to do it in Utah. Plus we have family and friends there so didn't mind being there. ICPC cleared for us in a week. That was nice. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

we also have adopted in utah. timbo is right. parents can sign anytime after 24 hrs after birth. if you use an agency then the sw can take relinquishments. if you use an attorney, then parents will go in front of a judge (ours took them back into his chambers) to sign tpr's. it is irrevocable. finalization is 6 months after signing. reasonable birthmother expenses are allowed. any other questions? i am here and just did this!

We adopted from Utah twice using an agency. My understanding is that Utah has some of the most "adoption friendly" laws in the country. Additionally, the court and the hospital were also surprisingly adoption savy. To the best of my knowledge, the same does not appear to be true in the northeast, where we live.

Both of our kids were born in Utah and we adopted them both there. It was totally random b/c the first time we did private and the second time used an agency. We loved the agency and our daughters mother was pretty happy with them too.
Feel free to PM me if you want to know more. Our first son was adopted 2.5 years ago (his mom liked it so much she moved there....and still lives there...) and our daughter was 8 months ago.
